ltdiver 3 #1 March 24, 2012 So, I'm finally taking a vacation away from the home front next month! Yay! It's actually circling around my high school reunion in Monterey. I'm now part of the bicycling scene, so I thought I'd take the week and make it a road trip, with stops to ride around some scenic places. I already have contacted a club up in that area and am riding a loop around Fort Ord (they have a weekly Thursday ride). I'll also be touring 17 Mile Drive's scene on the bike. http://www.pebblebeach.com/activities/explore-the-monterey-peninsula/17-mile-drive. I'd love to meet with DZ folks as well along the way. Perhaps other bike enthusiasts as well. My travel dates will be from April 23-May 1st. Also, any other suggestions of beautiful places to ride between SoCal and Monterey would be appreciated! Oh, and I'll be spending one day riding in Solvang. Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

oldwomanc6 60 #4 March 25, 2012 I rode from Seattle to San Diego, and I can tell you that almost anything along PCH is beautiful and worthwhile. I know you said South of Monterey, but the wine country (Sonoma and Napa) is awesome, and only a short car ride North. I spent a week biking down Sonoma and up Napa. lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
mrubin 0 #5 March 26, 2012 Paso Robles has some great wine and is south of Monterey. San Luis Obispo is a great town and very bike friendly. Pismo Beach and Morro Bay would also offer some great places to explore."I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
k-dubjumps 0 #6 March 27, 2012 I live in Carmel. You'll be riding in my hood. You could also ride down Hwy 1 to Big Sur and I would also recommend Carmel Valley Rd. It will take you to south Monterey County and back to the coast. http://www.pashnit.com/maps/CarmelValleyMap.htmAdrenaline is my crack DPH #3 D.S. #16 FAG #12 Muff Brother #4406
ltdiver 3 #7 March 28, 2012 Things are shaping up for the trip, and thanks for all the connections here and on PM! Here's the possible itinerary so far: --Santa Barbara for both an Tuesday AM solo warm-up and PM group ride with the locals up there. The countryside looks beautiful from the pictures I've seen so far. http://www.sbbike.org/region/rides/rides.html http://www.centralcoastcycling.com/ --Solvang for a longer Wednesday day ride. Most likely on my own, unless I can find a group ride. I know they just had a Century ride up there earlier this month. Two of my SoCal friends were up there for the event and loved it! http://www.bikescor.com/solvang/ Oh, just found a Thursday morning breakfast ride in Santa Maria! May have to fit this one in as well. Have always liked the idea of a mid-morning snack. :^) http://www.tailwindsofsantamariabc.org/calendar.html --Fort Ord group ride. Already connected for this Thursday ride in the evening. http://www.meetup.com/Over-the-Top-Cycling/events/dnpwjcyqgbjc/ --17 mile ride in Monterey on Friday morning. I have old high school friends who may join me for this. http://www.pebblebeach.com/activities/explore-the-monterey-peninsula/17-mile-drive High school reunion over the weekend in Monterey (yay! It's been 30 years! Wow! ) Then over to Ficklin Vinyards for wine tasting on Monday. I found their port at BevMo earlier this year and absolutely love it. I've wanted to visit their winery ever since. This is the perfect time! (burn all the calories before filling myself up again ) http://www.ficklin.com/ Anyone want to come along? TEB6363 0 #9 March 28, 2012 Ficklin Vineyards sounded familar. I drive by their sign every trip to Madera Parachute Center. We're in Clovis, just east of Fresno. However, I don't know about getting off work Monday to go wine tasting Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!! And if I decide to shorten my trip and get to Ficklin a day early I'll let you know. TEB6363 0 #11 March 30, 2012 You would have to recover from your reunion by Sunday to see people at Madera - Just a Saturday/Sunday DZ... But, if you do get out early, I can probably talk Annie into a glass of wineWe're heading your way for Easter - probably out at the tunnel on Friday and Saturday with my son. DFWAJG 4 #12 March 31, 2012 Be sure to jump at Monterey Bay. And bring a throw away camera with you. My favorite skydiving picture is of me under canopy with Monterey Bay in the background.

I've jumped at Monterey's DZ, and yes it is a beautiful view. Since I'll be bringing other gear I'm not sure what else will fit in my MINI. Some people know how I pack. ;^) Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

ltdiver 3 #15 April 23, 2012 This may be a cancelled trip. At least for cycling. It's currently raining, and the west coast looks the same the rest of the week. Clouds are great, but not this wet stuff. I'm not that hard core! Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
