weaverd 0 #1 February 5, 2012 So I just purchased a macbook pro. I am using migration assistant to transfer data from my old laptop to the Mac using an ethernet cable. It has been running for 3 hrs now and is telling me it has 14 hours to go to transfer aprox 80gigs of data. Is this normal ?

It has been running for 3 hrs now and is telling me it has 14 hours to go to transfer aprox 80gigs of data. Is this normal ? Maybe. It depends on the ethernet connection you had available at the time when you purchased your OLD Mac laptop. Depending how old it is, it might be a 10 base T ethernet, which could take quite awhile to transfer the material. It might have been considerably faster to have gone the FireWire route, but it's too late to think about that now. In any laptop migration I've ever done, I set it up and let it run over night. By morning it's usually done. I hate that whole, watched pot never boils thing so I simply avoid it that way.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
