JerryBaumchen 1,436 #176 November 14, 2011 Hi rehmwa, Quote Engineers are, THANKFULLY, highly risk adverse. That's their comfort zone. How true. I'm a retired Mech. Engr and have found too many of them live like this. We had a very competent electrical engineer who worked in our electrical test lab & sometimes I needed some info from him. I used to say that if I called him and asked him what time it was he would say, "I'll get back to you on that." JerryBaumchen

rehmwa 2 #178 November 15, 2011 Quotesigh it is what it is...... that's what I just have to keep telling myself.... maybe when the economy heats up i'll take my education and experience and walk away and find the "normal" folks. I'm normally on your side and find your tongue in cheek humor to be pretty great. And the PC folks ganging up on you as brave internet folks is really just sad here. But this comment turned me out pretty bad. If you don't recognize the value of your team members and use that to be a better leader, then you should go elsewhere. A strong "analytical" has a lot of weakness, but the strengths they bring are incredible in a well led team. And, yes, that personality type is the opposite of a good "expressive" personality type so that's frustrating for an 'expressive' type leader if he's not also a high adaptable type as well. As long as you consider yourself "normal" in comparison, you won't be able to be an effective leader at your job with any of these people. If you think you are frustrated, then your teammates likely feel it even worse if you don't value them like they deserve. For everything you can't stand about them, recognize that you appear reckless and knee jerk to them. As the leader, you either take your strengths and their strengths and put together something really great, or you are personally responsible for a bad team dynamic. that's how it works - and you have to be able to do that with all the different personality types too. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
shah269 0 #179 November 16, 2011 10 years of pushing rope will tire out a man.... They just lack any and all excitement! Even if something is a spectacular success! I mean people standing up and clapping and shouting...these engineers look as if they are catatonic! My celebrations are a bit more subdued so maybe I'm one of those engineers you hate so much."For you see, an airplane is an airplane. A landing area is a landing area. normiss 851 #182 November 16, 2011 I have been in the IT/Computer/Telecommunications arena for THIRTY FUCKING YEARS. I'm not tired, burnt out, angry with coworkers, hate my life, my home, nor my financial situation. In fact life is currently better than it's been in forever. SIUCC. I haven't been in that arena as long as you, but I'm going on about 12 years of doing primarily IT work, and I gotta say, "me too." (Funnily enough, any anger I *do* occasionally have with coworkers ain't with the engineers, it's with the so-called leadership)."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

God I would be standing up and screaming "wooo hooo! Look at the great work we did boys! WE FREAKING ROCK!" But that's just me i celebrate life. And if celebrating life is an issue for some, why should they keep me down? Yet further more, if these folks don't start showing that they actually enjoy what they are doing the next generation will not become engineers.
