skydiver30960 0 #2 August 26, 2011 In this regard, I think the part of human history in which we live SUCKS. A couple hundred years ago we had no idea what was out there: we just made stuff up. And to be honest, we're finding stuff out there that knocks the stuff we imagined into a cocked hat. A few hundred years from now (assuming we aren't wiped off the planet by Mother Nature or ourselves) we'll have the technology to go check out all this cool stuff. But right now we're stuck in the middle: we have the technology to look around us and see all the super-cool stuff that is out there, but we don't yet have the technology to GO there and see it with our own eyes, so to speak. If I haven't made a mistake with the gazintas it looks like the diamond planet's diameter is about 2500 times bigger than it's star. And with a "year" lasting a little over 2 hours! Amazing stuff! Money will be the incentive for us to go there. If we discover diamond-planets in our own solar system, the space race will be on. If we found some great source of energy out there, it would be even better.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

They are worth whatever gullible people are willing to pay for a chunk of carbon that just happens to sparkle. It wasn't until early last century that DeBeers started their massive marking campaign to make those shiny chunks of near worthless carbon the symbol of never ending love that a man must buy for his woman.
