not trying to be funny but have you tried to mention it to the lady in a nice way ! if she leaves it at home the chances of her knowing it barks are very limited and being friendly and mentioning it goes a lot further than being confrontational :| just a though see if you can introduce yourself to both her and the dog(take it a biccy) maybe just unsettled from the move but it maybe there was no complaints as there was no one close by at the last place they where and she doesn't actually Now ? just a thought like.

I would be happy to! But she is never home. It is a 8 to 10 week old puppy.

For the record I am trying to be funny :P

I know just a tiny bit about dogs ;) you do not get a puppy then leave it for hours upon hours. This is how dogs end up untrained and a complete handfull dumped off at a shelter. The first year is critical!

So no I am not really giving the dog a way, I was ventng and joking :):P

That's the one good thing she is home I believe around 10, well that or the puppy passes out from barking all day. It would be a much bigger issue if I was trying to sleep.

Puppies will bark when they're young. Everything is new to them and sometimes scary. As time goes by the puppy will realize that the owner will come home everyday, the barking will/should lessen and hopefully stop.

My dog barked in his crate for about a month when I wasn't home. But I did let the neighbors know the situation and I was aware of it.

Your neighbor should train the dog from the start. With my pup I would walk out and hang outside my apartment. My pup would bark and I would only enter back in when he didn't bark anymore. It taught him he can't get what he wants by barking. The barking episodes stopped in a few weeks when he was adjusted to my routine.

Some people don't know how to train a dog, its a real commitment to train a dog. I grew up with dogs so I had the upper hand, some people never owned a dog and do no investigating how to care for them.

Talk to the neighbor, maybe give them a website how to train the dog. Training os an on going thing. I always teach my dog new things, stimulating his mind. People are amazed how well he listens and knows to do things on his own. I can walk across a busy street and my dog will sit at the corner until I give him the ok to cross.

Maybe start a conversation with the neighbor in a concerning way, like ask if the dog is ok because you hear it barking for hours. Let them be aware. Maybe offer to take the dog for a pee and poop when they're not home (if you like dogs). The pup will be more comfortable being new puppies can't yet hold their bowels yet for more than a few hours and need to be taken out every few hours, even through the night you have to take them outside every few hours. In a few months they can hold it longer and longer as time goes.

Just give the pup some time;)

Yes I know all of this, I train dogs, hence why I said 1st year is critical.

Also why I brought up she is never home and leaves the poor thing alone all the time. I am frustrated because most people do not realize getting a dog is work. Everything you say I already know and I would be more then happy to talk to her but she is never around.

People tend to be irresponsible with their pets and do not bother to go through and research training BEFORE getting a dog! They just think it is a fashion accessory ;)

For the record I have dogs, worked (both on staff and volunteer) at a human society as an animal behaviorist;) and have trained and competed with my dogs in agility ;).

Edited to add: if you don't have time to train a dog or properly socialize the dog then you have no business getting one.

Exactly. Its the same responsibility as having a human kid. Except people think they can dump them at a shelter when they become an inconvenience or move where they can't have an animal. Well, people do dump human babies in the trash too so its the same [:/]

I would take a dog over a kid any day! I actually think the are slightly less of a responsibility. People forget they are a living thing too.

But to each their own. Just makes me sad to see the process in play knowing that the dog will end up getting handed off and people blame the dog, not themselves.

Until we can get laws into place to lessen back yard breeding (in it for the money, not for the bettering the breed), puppy mills (disgusting), mandatory spay ands neuter (accidental unnecessary over population), ect. we will continue to have abandoned animals. People need to be screened financially and mentally to be able to own an animal, I think.

My breeder of my dog wanted to see bank statements, paycheck stubs of how much I made, asked about my history with animals, even drove 4 hours to where I lived to see where the new pup would be living. Showed me all the heart, DNA, and hip tests of his two dogs (both show from well known breeders). He said he barely makes any money breeding, sometimes just enough to cover the costs of testing. And only does two litters, no more. He likes bettering the breed. Back yard breeding is a huge problem, money rules our species[:/]

This is why I hope to win the lottery one day. My girl and I would love to open up a huge shelter with staff 24 hours a day to play and care for the animals til they can get properly adopted out, well even take them back if it doesn't work out. Hook the place up so its fun for the dogs and cats. Open up a few pet shops with high quality food and toys and products made in the USA or fair trade. Pay the employees well so they can make a career out of it and have all proceeds go to our shelter and other struggling shelters. Just have to win that damn lottery or come
up with a good plan. Then I can focus on shutting down puppy mills (lancaster, pa) and stop backyard breeders.

Just a word of caution to everyone, DON'T buy a puppy from a pet store, they come from puppy mills. You'll inherit health problems and spend a lot of money for poor breeding habits.

PM Riddler for his instructions of connecting an audio-actuation circuit to an ultrasonic alarm.
Or you may be able to find it by searching.

The house next door was just sold recently, and the new owner has a dog. For the first week it was a whole lot of "WOOF WOOF WOOF!" (large dog). Since then, I've never heard him bark. The owner said he just needed to get used to the new place before he settled down.

Now if I could just find a solution for the goddamn woodpecker that was hammering away at 5am again this morning...>:(

With the exception my poor dog would freak out [:/]

Though still a good idea. Do they make doggie ear plugs? Those would also solve my buddies problem with the bike on the car while driving issue.

No animal wants to hang out at home alone....Your neighbor needs another puppy, so they can play and sleep together during the day. If it's playing, or sleepnig, it won't be barking.

Um actually it is not recommended to have two puppies at the same time ;) You are better off training the first one properly then bringing in a second one :)
If the owner spent proper time with the dog and was training it, there would be a whole different scenario.

Offer to train the dog for her. You have the skills, she has the need. - Win-Win

"She"??? The dog seems to be located about 3 houses to the East of mine. Hopefully, it will also annoy the neighbor in the first house to the East, (the cop).>:(

Most people are too stupid when it comes to kids and dogs to realize neglect is a form of abuse. I just love it when people get A [one] dog, throw it in the back yard with the six foot high fence and play with it when it's convenient for them. My S/O (the Vet) is currently down at the clinic where they're having an adopt-a-thon. Beautiful dogs and people just get them as some kind of novelty, tire of them, abandon them, etc. Although I was _involved_ in a very light way with the rescue and adoption folks, I don't participate in them anymore for two reasons, 1) I just get pissed, and 2) there's too many twits and it's a losing battle. If ya can't spend a couple of hours a day with your pets; do you, them and everyone else a favor and just let it pass...
Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
