PORT ANGELES, Wash. -- Wrongful death and personal injury claims totaling $10,022,700 have been made against Olympic National Park over the death of Bob Boardman, and a full-blown lawsuit may be imminent, according to his estate’s lawyer.

“We are intending to file a wrongful death suit,” personal injury lawyer John Messina of Tacoma told the Peninsula Daily News

He said the park is liable for Boardman’s death.

“Negligence is the basis,” he said Friday. “Our goal is to seek justice in this case and wake up the park system.”

The hiking party was sitting and eating lunch after hiking on Switchback Trail when the mountain goat came up to them, circled them at a close distance with its head down, pawed the ground, made bleating noises and would not leave, Willits said in her written statement to the park.

Boardman told Chadd and Willits to keep walking ahead of him, at times telling them to “keep going” while the animal followed next to him, Willits said.

It followed beside him for up to a mile before it gored him, according to park ranger reports.

People.... come on... you go into a wilderness.. and then expect animals to act like a pet??? Wild animals are going to go on their instincts especially during the fall mating season when you enter their turf :S

Why yes...yes I do!:S:S

It never ceases to amaze me how friggin stupid some people are. The last time I was in Jasper Park in Canudah..EH... I saw urban idiots with cameras stalking up to within 15 feet of Bullwinkle till a ranger came along and shooed said morons along andgave them a stern talking to about leaving him alone. Rocky was nowhere to be seen at the time. Luckily Bullwinkle was more interested in munching down on his favorite plants at the time.. instead of using his rather LARGE set of antlers to let urban idiot know whose turf it really was.

I have been in a hell of a lot of places on this planet, where humans were not necessarily the ones sitting on top of the food chain. When you endeavor to go to such places you had best be prepared for nature to try to add you back into the food chain and act accordingly;)

That is the way it should be, we are NOT at the top of the food chain. For some reason people seem to forget this ;)

See, now leave them alone... otherwise, I got nothing to watch on RealTV "Stupid of the Day" whatever show. I think I'm addicted to that channel. Ya know, Deers kicking the shit outta some guy, Alligators grabbing Billy Bob the PROFESSIONAL alligator wrestler's hand, chimpanzees tearing up the police mobile...

Don't pee near the trail. :):P

It was a dark & stormy night...I mean, no shit there I was~

30 years ago driving through Alaska when the need to pee prompted a quick stop along a deserted road...1/2 through, ole Bullwinkle rolls up on me 10 feet away and gives a stern WTF look. :$

THOSE things are REALLY big up close...and me standing there with nothing my hand but...well you get the picture! :S

Scared me ALMOST as much as the time floating in the water off the coast in CA waiting for the dive boat when a sea cow nudged me...eye the size of a softball staring at me. :o

Large wild animals are best viewed from the couch on wild kingdom! :D
