skyrider 0 #951 July 1, 2010 Quote I hate to admit it but all of the metal sheets and bits like that I scrounged out of my local dumpsters. I went around every Sunday morning to all the auto body shops, machine shops, and auto mechanic places in my neighborhood. You'd be amazed at what those cats just throw way . . . NickD I used to run my antique booth and swap meets off of doing that, My wife finally won the arguement for me to stop...
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #952 July 1, 2010 Quote Tomorrow at 2:00 PM is Nina's scheduled CHP inspection . . . I'm going to truck her down to the CHP station so they can't bust my ball for my vertical plate holder and a myriad of other things that aren't legally part of their inspection. (But would be citations out on the road.) This is only supposed to be a numbers check on Nina's motor, frame, and transmission. And I have all that supporting paperwork. So I'm going to audio tape it (surreptitiously) and if tomorrow's DZ.com homepage headline reads, "NickD - Killed in Hail of Police Gunfire!" Find the tape before they plant me and know it was only because they hassled me way too freaking much! NickD I wouldn't put that tape recorder in your pocket if I were you. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to tape the conversation without permission of all parties according to CA law. http://www.a1-hiddencamera.com/blog/?cat=11"There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." NickDG 23 #953 July 1, 2010 Isn't that only over the phone? I think in public you can video or audio record anything, right? Even if you're not being open about it. NickD
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #954 July 1, 2010 Quote Isn't that only over the phone? I think in public you can video or audio record anything, right? Even if you're not being open about it. NickD Not really. If you read the link I posted, they talk about the difference between "public" and "private" conversations. And I think a quiet conversation (quiet meaning not screaming at the top of your lungs) between just you and the inspector, especially if it's in a private office, would count as a "private" conversation, and be considered the same as a phone conversation. There was a thread in SC a week or so ago where a dude videoed (with audio) a confrontation with a cop and got charged with wiretapping (because of the audio portion, video is a whole different game). The "all parties" laws suck (IMO) because they prevent you from proving that someone said something. Wisconsin is a "one party" law state. I can tape any conversation (public, private. phone, whatever) that I am a part of. I have recently been peripherally involved in a "neighbor dispute" that ended up with a couple disorderly conduct citations being written. After that confrontation, I had my little tape recorder in my pocket just in case (I never did end up in a confrontation with them, but I wanted to be prepared). I have checked with the local authorities and a local attorney and made sure that it is legal here. That's why I'm fairly up to speed on this stuff. I don't think you can do that in California."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." skyrider 0 #955 July 1, 2010 I am pretty sure it is illegal , without permission! I'd take my video camera, ask the officer if it is OK if you add this video to the Process video you have been making, My bet is he will say OK!

NickDG 23 #960 July 2, 2010 Weld looks fine . . . Just came back from Nina's CHP inspection. No Problemo! The officer took down the three numbers from the frame, engine, and trans, then ran them through the stolen parts database, signed my paper work, and told me to have a great fourth of July! He used the numbers on my neck for the VIN so no hideous blue tag or anything was put on the bike. The officer also asked if I built the bike myself and when I answered yes, he said, "Nice!" So I brought Nina home and then went into Glendale to return the rental truck with Julia following me in her car. After we dropped the truck off we stopped for a bite to eat and then got on the 134 freeway for home. Four or five cars ahead of us is a guy on motorcycle. All of a sudden a black sedan on his right moved into his lane and knocked him right off his bike. The person who hit him didn't stop. Julia and I pulled over and I ran up to him. Both his knees and elbows were skinned up pretty good and his helmet had a nasty gash in it. He was A&Ox3, had a good airway, his pupils were equal and responsive. Two other people also stopped and I had them directing the traffic around us. I also made sure one of them called 911. The guy was complaining of neck pain so I left his helmet on and held c-spine until the fire medics arrived. Just another day in Hollywood! Tomorrow I get to stand in line for Nina's license plates at the DMV and that's it, done and done! NickD

skyrider 0 #973 July 3, 2010 Quote At what point are a lot of welds on a bike frame "too many"? since 1942, this one has seen it;s share, it never gets babied, I take it off road, or anywhere that strikes my fancy...so far so good! When I first got it, it had fence post welded to the bottom of the frame, to hold it together, (broke while hill climbing) I cut those off and slugged and welded it, those are the welds that broke this time! Broke while riding from teh Perris DZ, to canyon lake , by way of the canal! I have ridden that didt trail many times on my knuckle! As for how many is too many, it depends on the rod used, (metal compound) But once it has gotten to the point of brittle, you just cut out that section, and replace it! How she looked when first I brought her home ... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/onekick/my42.jpg
NickDG 23 #974 July 3, 2010 A couple of follow ups on Nina . . . Yesterday I removed her exhaust pipes and wrapped the header sections with high temperature black exhaust wrap. I didn't like the look prior as it was too chromey for my taste. I also sealed the wrap with high temp paint. Today I ran her in the driveway to burn in the wrap. I really like the way she looks better now. So then I go to put my brand new license plate on (so I could go for a ride) and, I don't know, but there was something bugging me about it. I kept staring at it but something about it didn't just look right. Then I spotted it. They made the frigging plate wrong! Instead of reading 9INA it reads 91NA! With a 1 instead of an I! My registration reads correctly and when I checked the DMV website they show 9INA as taken, but 91NA is still available. So now I'm not sure what to do. I could say nothing and run her as is. On the one hand if I'm fleeing the scene of a crime they wouldn't be able to trace the plate back to to me. But on the other hand if somebody does get issued the same plate I have now suppose they wind up wanted for murder or something? Man, it's always something! Well, I can't do anything about until Tuesday so I'm going for a ride anyway. Happy 4th everyone! NickD
