skyrider 0 #1226 November 4, 2010 Quote Not into Synthetics (whether it's oil or tits, LOL) so I'm running straight 50 weight Dino oil . . . NickD Well, there is half yoru problem, Mulit wieghts work wondrs for Harley's.. 50 at start up is WAY too heavy, 20 /50 gives you easy starts with the same protection.. Why do you think "harley" recommends it? I run 20.50 in all 3 of my knuckleheads... over 87,000 on my motor since the last rebuild....No problems.... NickDG 23 #1227 November 4, 2010 I can't recall how many times I spent drunkingly kicking a Shovelhead in a bar parking lot at 2 in the morning. No thanks, Sonny, I'm now pushing the button and blowing . . . LOL! NickD

(also that heavy oil, = hard starting, kick or electric...check out my knuckle starting with 20/50....If it was 50 weight, I'd have to do the jump in the air thing... last one to fire up, because my son had issues with his carb.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHaSq2vqDXY
ryoder 1,590 #1229 November 4, 2010 But one of my most vivid memories was pulling the bike out of the garage on the first really cold autumn morning, coming down on the kickstarter like a pile-driver...and getting absolutely no resistance at all, resulting in learning that knees really can bend the opposite direction. And yes, I was running straight-weight oil in it, (spec'd by HD at the time). "Sportser leg"....I got mine on a stroker sportster.. damned gears slip if the spring is weak, or if you use thick oil! Harley changed their stance, BTW...they now only sell multi weight! (for the motor, I still run 20/50 in teh gear box too)
NickDG 23 #1231 November 4, 2010 >>"harley" recommends it?I haven't listened to anything the MOCO says since the AMF days, LOL . . . Harley motors were originally designed for Dino oil. And the MOCO fought "Synth" for years until it began stealing market share. Just beacuse they are greedy and stupid doesn't mean you need to be. Hard running motors have been running on Dino for a hundred years. There's no such thing as a smart oil. There's just stupid consumers, kinda like Republicans . . . LOL! skyrider 0 #1233 November 4, 2010 Did you check how easy our bikes kick? even my sons, (high compression 74 inch) 16 yearold kickin it like it is a 350 honda! Due to oils that work like 20 weight when cold, but Lube like 50 when hot...
NickDG 23 #1234 November 4, 2010 Ya big dope that's the rub . . . You want an oil that reacts to internal motor temperature not outside ambient temperature! It's why Twin Cams with Synth oil clatters when they start up. You can have a brain in the seat or a brain in the crankcase, but you can't have both. NickD This is an Old war in all the biker forum, with the "high miles" guys winning every time! I goit my opinion from working in the industry, and building motors, Plus my own antiques are living proff, most knuckles, are lucky to get 50,000 between rebuilds... Wee used straigh weight only in our race motors, but they used BIG ass starters to get them running, made maybe 3 races if lucky, then were torn down... if you want to keep a motor...multi weeight...go talk to the wrenches at any dealershit...er I mean ship.... Brought it home, slooooooooooooowwwwwwly drained that crap out of it, tuned it up...One kick....like a knucklehead outa be! just draining that shit, tells me, it is bad for a motor! Squeak 17 #1243 November 5, 2010 QuoteI've heard bad things about the Odessy batteries, specifically that they don't last. Odd, as in the Guzzi world (very heavy cranking bikes) they last a life time. 12 months in storage and no charingin and cranked right over 1st time, i'm ok with that. Mind you Dekka also make some good similar sized BatteriesYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? skyrider 0 #1244 November 10, 2010 BASE Jumping biker? As hard as it may be to believe , there are motorcycle driving schools located on a building roof-tops. We didn’t know such a thing exists, until a shocking news came to our attention, informing that a woman attending a motorcycle lesson lost control of the bike and plunged 30 feet (9m) from the top of a five-storey driving circuit to its third floor. Nur Amalina, 20, was at her fourth lesson at the Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC) in Woodlands, when she accelerated instead of braking, slammed into the wall. The impact was so strong that it threw her off the bike, over the wall and onto the third-floor ledge. According to an SSDC spokesman, the steel mesh between the fence and wall was not enough to prevent the fall. He added that the victim had been unable to slow down while negotiating a corner on the driving circuit. Nur Amalina was taken into the intensive care unit of Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Yishun, and underwent spinal surgery, The Straits Times reported. “Her condition has stabilised but she has a fractured spine. We don't know when she will recover, although her doctor said that she has a good chance,” her father was quoted by the aforementioned source. Also, SSDC students interviewed said they were not surprised by the accident, as the parapet is too low, lower than the motorbike itself. “'I believe this could have been prevented. The school is called the Singapore Safety Driving Centre, where is the word 'safety'?" the victim’s father added. SSDC has reportedly secured and strengthened the steel mesh since the incident in question in order to prevent a similar one to happen again. It added that it would help the victim's family financially. http://www.autoevolution.com/images/news/learner-female-biker-falls-30ft-in-training-accident-26181_1.jpg [http://www.autoevolution.com/news/learner-female-biker-falls-30ft-in-training-accident-26181.html
