virgigirlie 0 #1 May 18, 2011 Perhaps this post belongs in the General Skydiving Discussions area, but it's really just a question. I'm likely moving to MD in August for work and I don't know where to jump. I'll be just less than an hour south of the PA border (if you go due north to the border), in the Joppa area (30 mile radius, perhaps closer to Baltimore). So where's a good place to jump?"If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning." ~Catherine Aird
audiobahn18s 0 #2 May 18, 2011 Skydive delmarva is in Laurel DE, over the bay bridge. It's got a great vibe and plenty of fun jumpers. It's the only place I have jumped so I am a little partial!
jaitken 0 #3 May 18, 2011 Joppa looks to be ~90 miles from both Cross Keys (NJ) and Chambersburg (PA). I haven't jumped either but you can find more info at http://crosskeysskydiving.com/ and http://www.skydivingcenter.net/. If for whatever reason you end up on the south/west side of B'more then Skydive Orange in Orange, VA will be about the same distance as xkeys (~110 miles, give or take), and might be worth a shot. virgigirlie 0 #4 May 18, 2011 Thanks for the help. I've checked some stuff out online, but knowledge of the mileage helps (I'm not used to being close enough to that many other states that I'd have all those options). I really want personal opinions based on where you jump/have jumped or opinions you've heard from jumpers who've been to certain places. Maybe when I go back to check out apartments I'll just have to do a little research in the form of DZ sampling (poor me). SStewart 13 #5 May 19, 2011 Maytown is the closest and easiest to get to for you. It is interstate driving most of the way, Traffic is not bad, maybe a bit more than an hour from Joppa. Crosskeys is over two hours and lots of traffic, toll roads, etc. Delmarva is almost 3 hours with bay bridge traffic on weekends. Chambersburg is at least two hours depending on traffic. I lived in MD for 5 years and jumped at all these places, all are good but Maytown is the easiest drive and a very cool small DZ with a wide open landing area. Certainly my favorite.Onward and Upward!
