Zep 0 #4 January 29, 2011 +1 I think deep with in us we all have that kind selfless courage, some of us just have to dig deeper to find it. LEST WE FORGET God of our fathers, known of old— Lord of our far-flung battle line— Beneath whose awful hand we hold Dominion over palm and pine— Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! The tumult and the shouting dies— The Captains and the Kings depart— Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice, An humble and a contrite heart. Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! Far-called our navies melt away— On dune and headland sinks the fire— Lo, all our pomp of yesterday Is one with Nineveh and Tyre! Judge of the Nations, spare us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! If, drunk with sight of power, we loose Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe— Such boastings as the Gentiles use, Or lesser breeds without the Law— Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! For heathen heart that puts her trust In reeking tube and iron shard— All valiant dust that builds on dust, And guarding calls not Thee to guard. For frantic boast and foolish word, Thy Mercy on Thy People, Lord! Amen. Gone fishing

JohnMitchell 16 #6 January 29, 2011 An amazing story that needs to be told and retold. And so many MOH recipients will say there were men and deeds on the battlefield even more courageous than theirs, but sometimes go unheralded.

NovaTTT 2 #8 January 29, 2011 Dad was in Viet Nam with the 5th Special Forces Group. I asked him if he knew Sgt. Benavidez and wasn't surprised that he did. They were in country at the same time but were on different teams. Dad said Benavidez was a remarkable man and they were friendly through the years. Dad attended Sgt. Benavidez' memorial service and said there was not a dry eye in attendance. Dad is having serious health issues his VA doctor said are related to Agent Orange exposure. They were in country at the same time but were on different teams. I'm honestly surprised they never named anything (that I saw anyways) after him down at group. I did actually meet him, he spoke at my school way back when. I didn't understand what he had done back then, but damn, once I found out, I was humbled."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
Lastchance 0 #10 January 30, 2011 Incredible story. Thanks for posting it. I have been putting in resumes for several years now and am damn proud to say that I am finally going to work at the #1 rated VA hospital in the U.S. Fort Harrison , Helena Mt. I myself have been receiving my medical care there for the last 15 years. It's time to give back to those who have given so much of themselves for us. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.

MikeJD 0 #19 April 3, 2011 Quoteamazing story, so many other real men and women heros Agreed. And not to take away from Benavidez at all, but many truly heroic actions are not military at all - which makes them even less likely to be widely reported or recognised.
