ryoder 1,590 #2 September 8, 2010 I've had slurry bombers turning West over my house as they depart Rky Mtn Metro/KBJC, since yesterday afternoon. This was an IM from a co-worker who lives in Gunbarrel: QuoteAsh in the air. The car was covered w/ a very thin veneer of ash yesterday. The sun at 3pm was so obscured you could look straight at it. What made it through was a dim red ball. I went out cycling tonight South of Boulder tonight. The darn smoke cloud made it seem as if sunset came about two hours earlier."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. ridestrong 1 #3 September 8, 2010 It's crazy... I drove through the smoke on I-25 on my way home from Longmont yesterday. You could already smell the smoke in Thornton. Hope your out of the line of fire.*I am not afraid of dying... Calvin19 0 #7 September 10, 2010 It's fun to visit it. but they started arresting people. We were paragliding over it a few days ago, and the day before that skydiving over it, well, skydiving off to the side of it. Found out after paragliding around water bombing choppers getting filled up that there was a TFR. So. these pictures are from last year. I promise. Calvin19 0 #8 September 10, 2010 The heavy lift Helo was getting water not 100' from where we land PGs. The nice firefighter man came over and said that we were getting him in trouble. It was a good day. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2051685&id=203002032&l=2c2f3fdf5d
ryoder 1,590 #9 September 10, 2010 Are you saying they did not have permission to use water from Wonderland Lake? (Johannis told he had to go to Golden to fly this week)."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. ridestrong 1 #10 September 10, 2010 Cool photos... I went up to jump on Sunday and Monday but we got shut down because of the wind. Will be going up on Sat and was wondering how it will look out of the Otter... pretty crazy judging by your photos.*I am not afraid of dying... I don't think it should affect your itinerary much though it's far enough from Estes etc... but close enough to Boulder to possibly get a contact high .*I am not afraid of dying... Calvin19 0 #12 September 10, 2010 QuoteAre you saying they did not have permission to use water from Wonderland Lake? (Johannis told he had to go to Golden to fly this week). The Johanaphone is right, there was a TFR for the 10 mile radius around the fire. (no pg or any civilian airplanes allowed) but I am sure they have permission to get water out of wonderland res. I doubt permission was even needed. it is a drop in the bucket, even 1000 fills is a drop in the bucket.
ryoder 1,590 #13 September 13, 2010 Better hurry and get out here while we still have some trees left! Calvin19 0 #14 March 18, 2011 The new fires last week almost put me back in airplane jail. They had that TFR up fast. Almost like they had done it before -SPACE-
ryoder 1,590 #15 March 18, 2011 I went cycling up to Lyons and back on Sunday. I thought it was kind of funny that they went to the trouble of taking down the green info sign at Lefthand Cyn Rd, (that gives the mileage to Ward and Jamestown). It was lying in the ditch."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.

I've been so busy I haven't even heard about this yet... Any word on how these have been started yet? I did see the Boulder fire from the dz last week, that didn't look too bad. Also got to see one of the choppers refuel at Mile-Hi.*I am not afraid of dying...
