Thousands of people dead or missing and we've got people arguing about the finer points of armchair-nuclear reactor theory, and the conspiracy theorists running loose. Way to step it up guys. Bravo. It's pretty much immaterial now, but Japanese authorities have just upped the magnitude from 8.8 to a 9.0... I don't think I've ever heard of an earthquake that strong. 1969912 0 #103 March 13, 2011 Quote ....i do know more about nuclear plants than you do.. Quite possible, but unlikely considering that nearly every technical statement you've made has been wrong. Think KI and Cs, boron as a moderator, water as a moderator, etc. Back on topic, the IAEA says that the Japanese have suggested that boron mixed with seawater be injected into the reactor. That implies that the control rods might not be fully inserted (i.e. a neutron poison (boron) is needed to stop fission.) If the reactor is still running with a coolant problem, it's a scary situation. The IAEA says that both I-131 and Cs-137 have been detected outside of the plant. That means the fuel has been damaged, the primary coolant loop is contaminated, and most likely the reactor will never operate again. Of course, that is the least of their problems. If they are pushing seawater into the primary coolant loop, where is the water going after passing through th core? If it's a single pass operation and the water is being dumped back into the ocean, then any fuel/fission products that are in the water are being dumped into the environment. pagliaccio 0 #115 March 14, 2011 I want to express our heartfelt thanks to the world from Japan. USA, Germany, Switzerland, UK, China, Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and France sent us their rescue teams and 91 countries are offering support so far. I sincerely thank you to all as one of Japanese. We will never forget the favor. I'm so sorry about the safety of the nuclear power plants. Not to mention all Japanese people knows about fear of the nuclear things very well. Right now doing our best to avoid the worst scenario, so please calm down and do not over react for a while. Please understand this situation. What a horrible disaster… lots of cities disappeared in a few minutes. I can't watch the news without tears... But I do believe we will regain someday. Yes, we can! I'm sure the entire country will recover! You better. My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones during all this. The global community tends to overlook the personal loss when terms like "reactor" and "containment" start hitting the media. You all are in my prayers!Sincerely, Kevin

Snowwhite 0 #118 March 15, 2011 Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family and friends as they go through this difficult time. In the US, we have very good press coverage for the first 3 or 4 weeks of any world wide problem. Then the problem just kind of goes away, and we rarely hear about it again. Please keep us informed. If there is someway we can help you, please let us know that, too.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
BillyVance 34 #119 March 15, 2011 If there is any way possible, I have two friends in Japan who are deaf skydivers. I have not heard from them since, and am not sure where they live... Mitsuhiro (Hiro) Masuda and Akira Ishikawa Hiro was on the 400 way world record several years ago in Thailand, and Akira is an architect who is somewhat of a newer jumper. Any help would be appreciated. pagliaccio 0 #121 March 15, 2011 I don’t know Akira Ishikawa but I thank you for him. Do you know where he lives? I believe he is OK if he lives west-half of Japan but the north area…I can’t say anything... so sorry. Now more than 15,000 people missing and at least 550,000 evacuated. Most evacuation sites have a problem of electricity and water. There’s no way to contact at this moment. God, forecast says tomorrow will be snowing... Again I thank you guys. Nobody knows when and where the earthquake happens. Stay healthy and prepare for it. If you’re faced the disaster unfortunately, please don’t be selfish and help each other.
