soccerguy 0 #1 March 8, 2005 I have a hornet 150, and I am considering a heatwave 135. Can any one tell me differences in the two canopies? Is the heatwave a safe and controlable canopy?

kingbunky 3 #3 March 9, 2005 hornet = square (more or less) heatwave = eliptical (more or less) downsizing and changing 'shapes' at the same time is generally not reccommended. keep in mind i'm just a 100 jump wonder repeating some advice i've seen here in the forums, over and over... Canuck 0 #4 March 9, 2005 The Heatwave is a fine canopy, definitely a step up in performance from the Hornet. The canopy itself is safe, as to whether or not you would be flying it, that's not something I can't answer. Canuck
FrogNog 1 #5 March 9, 2005 Quote...definitely a step up in performance from the Hornet. I believe by "step" he means "BIG STEP". That's my first cent. My second cent is about a person downsizing at the same time as going from slightly tapered rectangular planform to full-on elliptical (as the review page for the heatwave said), in the sub-150 square foot range, with an unknown weight, unknown number of jumps, two years in the sport, and a "B" license. -=-=-=-=- Pull. Is the heatwave a safe and controlable canopy? i have a few jumps on heatwaves (500 on a 120, and about another 200 on 135's and a 100). i have about 300 jumps on a 170 hornet and about 25 on a 150. the heatwave turns much faster and has a much shorter toggle stroke. the heatwave has more squily openings, or well can get a lot more squily a lot faster. the dive is pretty similar, but the heatwave does dive more after a hook. the heatwave in a great canopy, i loved my old 120, i wish i never would have sold it, one of the best canopies i've ever owned. later
rhys 0 #7 March 9, 2005 i have done 1000 on a heatwave 120. it is a great canopy need to pack it well for it to open well (i jump camera)but once it is open it is very nice. never once had a collapse(in turbulance) when others did. i relined it myself and the lineset was a foot longer than the old ones on the 1 and 10 lines. i emailed aerodyne to see what was happening (yes i know spectra shrinks with age but not by 10%) i received no answer after 3 emails so i have lost some confidence in them. great canopy though. still has good flare and it has 1800 jumps now.
