CanuckInUSA 0 #2 February 28, 2011 They were a different breed back then. Being thrown from the cars because they were not belted in, cars exploding into balls of flames on impact. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Amazon 7 #5 February 28, 2011 Quotevimeo.com/20247765 I have a good ole boy 2nd cousin.... he lost control and got tossed from his 57 Chev while drag racing back in 1962.. the other car smushed him... He spent 4 years in a coma... and when he did come out of it.. his wife had yet another child to take care of all her life.
warpedskydiver 0 #6 February 28, 2011 My dad raced at midway and meadowdale. he always wore his helmet, gloves, boots harness and had a fire extinguisher on a "dead man" clip connected to his collar. He had seven kids to provide for so he was not taking any unnecessary risks. His last race car was Corvair spyder turbo convertible It was extremely fast for its day. My mom drove us kids around in it, we would stand up and hold onto the rollcage as it went over the hump of the railroad tracks, we would get a little airborne and then it would come down hard on the skid plates. My dad found out and was kinda pissed.
