Hey Pops, I think it's just changing styles and a generational thing. You and I both remember when if you had really short hair the girls wouldn't look your way at all. These days I like my hair cut short, so short it would have ruined my life as a teenager. Here's a blurry old pic of long hair and big jumpsuit in the 70's. You are not kidding about the short hair, stateside it was enough to keep you from ever getting a date in the late 70's or very early 80's. Exact opposite in Europe. It could be volunteering or service clubs, through school, etc. I wasn't allowed to work in high school outside of volunteering and keeping my grades up.
