airdvr 210 #1 February 4, 2011 So a cell phone comes to the office today. Company issued. I didn't request it and I don't need it. In fact, I don't want it. In my business I've given out my cell # to customers and had them call me at 10 pm to ask about recessed lighting or ceramic tile. I get the feeling that this is the company's way of saying they expect you to be available to customers after hours. I'm not feeling the love. Please don't dent the planet. quade 4 #5 February 4, 2011 Everything about a company issued cell phone sucks. Don't make any calls, send any texts or have any contacts in it you wouldn't make use of in the presence of your boss or have read aloud in a court.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Morrison79 0 #6 February 4, 2011 That's the exact reason I leave my company cell on my desk at work! Sorry but once I'm off the clock I don't want to hear or think about work.
NWFlyer 2 #7 February 4, 2011 I love having a company cell phone (BlackBerry). It gives me the freedom to telecommute when I want/need to. It allows me to have a phone number to give people at work that is NOT my personal number. I only use it for work calls/work e-mails. It has an off button that I generally use on weekends/evenings. It allows me to be productive in airports when I'm on work travel. It's all about how you set the expectations. I recall when I started in this job I discussed getting a work mobile with my then-boss. I suggested a BlackBerry and he said "Do you want to be that accessible?" I said I liked the flexibility it would give me with travel, but that I also had no trouble ignoring it. 2 1/2 years later that's still true."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Heh, I assume that at all times everything I do is being recorded. Then again, most of the time I'm the one recording it video/audio, but I have to assume that someone else is as well. I welcome the recordings, since it has successfully shown that people I contact are liars and cheats, trying to concoct a story to get someone in trouble.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." airdvr 210 #11 February 6, 2011 I found out the real reason we were issues cells. There were several salespeople that had their own cells and used them for business and personal reasons. When they left the company they took a couple of clients with them by way of the client calling their cell. Please don't dent the planet. MX304 0 #12 February 7, 2011 Having a company Blackberry / cell phone won't help with that issue. In fact it probably makes it easier. I create a backup of my entire phone and outlook contact lists once a week and upload them to my home computer.
