squirrel 0 #1 January 30, 2011 looking to get a DVR or some type of recorder to record TV (we have direct TV). Direct TV wants $100 (deposit, but we still don't own the gear) plus a monthly charge. I prefer to buy items outright. Is there a stand alone device that can record using the Direct TV scheduler/program guide? ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? PhreeZone 20 #3 January 31, 2011 Look online at craigslist for a series 2 TiVo with lifetime service. Series 2 is not hd so they are getting dumped not the market and the lifetime service means you get the schedules and updates as long as TiVo is in business. The lifetime service was a $300 option a few years ago. I see units going for $75-125 on craigslist all the time locally. They might only record 20 hours or so but upgrading the hard drive is simple if you have a spare ide drive laying around. If you need hd then look at the ones from the cable company since they update them and replace equipment all the time.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
