wmw999 2,452 #1 January 14, 2011 Can one still buy one? I know 7 is pretty solid, but I'm still looking for XP to work with some older products. I'd sort of rather buy new, but can go the ebay route. However, if you're looking for compatability with XP, Windows 7 Ultimate has 'XP mode' which runs XP on sort of a virtual machine. HeadCone 0 #3 January 14, 2011 Interesting timing of post. I just got off the phone today with the Dell rep for the company I work for who stated that they can no longer ship computers with XP. This went into effect in October.-- Turn off the internet! It's not sort of a virtual machine, it is a virtual machine running XP. Depending on the level of interactivity with the Internet the program you need to run on it has, you'll need to use Wndows update to patch the XP VM as well. If you still need XP for certain programs an XP VM on Windows 7, Mac, or Linux is the way to go. I personally prefer VMWare Player for Windows to the Windows VM Player but the Windows one has far better integration with the computer it is running on.Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. Most likely not on the 64 bit systems though. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301041 CNC machines? regulator 0 #11 January 14, 2011 If you really need to use XP, I'd go the Bolas route and get a VMware shell and run a virtual XP OS. Just make sure you stacked with ram otherwise running multiple OS's could affect overall system performance. And Microsoft stopped supporting and distributing XP late last year.
