CLEMSON, S.C.: A man has been hospitalized after police in South Carolina say he was hit by an SUV while playing a real-life version of the video game Frogger.

Authorities said the 23-year-old man was taken to a hospital in Anderson after he was struck at around 9 p.m. Monday.

In the Frogger arcade game, players move frogs through traffic on a busy road and through a hazard-filled river. Before he was hit, police say the man had been discussing the game with his friends.

Chief Jimmy Dixon says the man yelled ''go'' and darted into oncoming traffic in the four-lane highway.

No charges are expected against the driver. The name of the man who was struck has not been released. He was in stable condition Monday night.

I live just down the road so we see the kids make bad choices on a regular basis. I won't point too many fingers though. Lord knows I've done my share of stupid stunts. On the plus side, I didn't know that Dixon is police chief now. he was one of my coaches in high school-maybe he can help next time I get a speeding ticket there

Am I the only one that thinks the media fabricated this story? I guess after all my bad experiences with them, I just don't trust them.

For instance, you need a story to sell. So you take an ordinary auto-ped accident, write the real details down, and surreptitiously add this one line:

"Before he was hit, police say the man had been discussing the game with his friends."

Bam! There's your story. No details about which police, and unverifiable statement that gives you a popular headline. Any of his friends come forward and verify this was true? Somehow, I doubt they will.
