House-sharing with a friend...

Recommended Posts

I know the answers are somewhat limited, but there is the option to expand with "other" :)
I was just thinking about my recent move to France.. I ended up having to go back to London for over a month and because I gave up my apartment, I stayed at a friend's...

It made me really nervous to stay at her place because she's my best friend and the thought had occurred to me that it might sour the relationship. To my great relief, however, we've become so much closer as a result and I'm really glad to have spent this time getting to know her better :)
Curious about other people's experience about this or maybe even just travelling with a friend... Good experience? Bad? Neutral? If you've never lived with a friend, would you risk it?

Should've allowed multiple answers ;) - each has applied at some time in my life back when I was single.

No doubt. Like the time I came home baked and left the fridge door open all night and ruined everyone's food.

We called it Dean's Home for Wayward Skydivers and at any given time there were 3-4 different folks livng there.
Please don't dent the planet.

Oops!! That makes sense now I think about it!! :$

ETA: I *did* put "other," so I guess if more than one applies you can select that :)

I currently live with 5 skydivers (we call the house the Skydiver Pound). I couldn't imagine it any other way. We've all lived together for about 1.5 years now....and it's pretty darn good. There are some frustrations every now and then, but nothing huge.

So...who is it that gets stuck cleaning up behind the others? How is that working out?
My reality and yours are quite different.

Hahhahaa, I usually clean up dinner because I cook and I can't stand leaving the mess. We only have one bathroom......with that many people sharing it there is no room for mess. It seriously has never been an issue.

Most of my roommate situations have been with one or two other people. The biggest house I lived in (just after college) had 5 women total. The best decision we made was to pay for a cleaning service every 2 weeks. We rotated through who had responsibility for prepping the house for the cleaning service (basically making sure there weren't dishes on the counter or in the sink so that they could actually clean our kitchen) and paying.

So basically, every 10 weeks each of us had to cough up $65 and do a very minor amount of housework and there was peace in the land. Granted, we still had to keep things functional in the interim by washing our own dishes or at least loading the dishwasher, but not having to argue over who would do the serious cleaning really made a huge difference.

So what happens to the skydivers no one will adopt?[:/]
