nickeadie 0 #28 November 26, 2010 Granted, however I was not trying to compare the two for price, mine was simply a broken leg hers was a life threatening situation. The point I was trying to make was that the US medical system is too based on insurance companies that just pay the bill given, whereas when these figures were actually challenged one bill was halved and the other had 2/3 of the cost removed. My son had a disease that ran about 100K a year. The out of pocket was unreal. I got used to really scrutinizing every single charge on every bill. When you call the hospital/lab/dr office and start asking "hey, why did you charge me for cable tv? I didn't ask for that?" or "why did you charge for the guy who pushed the wheelchair to the xray dept., I could have done that for free" They start dropping charges right and left. We have often been told that what the insurance company paid was plenty and that the rest of the bill would be dropped.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
d_squared431 0 #31 November 26, 2010 Basically you are right about the right off minus your % of the bill. Say the charge is 500.00 and the insurance says they will only cover 200.00 of the 500.00. That leaves patient % which is usually 10-40% once their deductible has been met. The rest is a write off by the facility or physician. Unless it is medications or durable goods. In some cases those are not a covered benefits and are the patients responsibility.TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly
