freethefly 6 #51 October 22, 2010 QuoteInteresting how shit happens in slow motion when the adrenalin kicks in.... Hear that... I can still see the fear in the face of the squirrel that I hit at Otay lake back in '82. Totaled out the bike and put me in Balboa Naval hospital for more than a month. The squirrel didn't do so well neither... little bastard became road-burger. Other than that one, I've been rear-ended at a stop light by a drunk and once t-boned another bike that crossed in front of me."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." JohnMitchell 16 #53 October 23, 2010 Quote To be fair, a 67 Impala's truck is large enough to hold a minimum of 3 dead hookers and still have room left over for the coke... Hell yeah, and the back seat's big enough for a kangaroo honeymoon.
Nataly 38 #54 October 23, 2010 God.. One of the comments on that link suggests the solution is for bikers to "buy a grown up car" - argh. If I had a penny for every time I hear it's the biker's fault.. This is SUCH a bad attitude to have. "I have a big vehicle so I have the right of way" I also took a defensive driving course, where we were taught to ignore whose fault something is and to just deal with it in the safest way possible. If everyone had this attitude that whatever happens at least they drive well/defensively, it would solve a lot of problems.. On a bike, it doesn't matter if what I'm doing is *right* if it means that car is going to plow into me.. It's more important to avoid an accident than to be "correct" (and dead). Honestly, though.. Any biker with a brain looks *everywhere* when filtering traffic, so it's no excuse for a car to switch lanes without looking... EVERYONE has to look. Any biker with a brain looks *everywhere* when filtering traffic, so it's no excuse for a car to switch lanes without looking... EVERYONE has to look. I partly agree with you. But I still believe that a huge number of biker accidents could have been prevented through better riding (regardless of fault). When you are filtering through traffic 40MPh faster than the cars you can appear out of nowhere. A recent article in one of the biker mags pointed out that on a bike we have very little distraction. Car drivers are busy talking on their phones, playing with the radio, setting the aircon and worrying about the cup of starbucks on their lap. It is no excuse but it is a reality. Not to mention I have seen people getting road head (M25 in rush hour traffic) and a mate nearly got taken out by a wanker - literally not figuratively speaking, the guy had a porn mag on the steering wheelExperienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. skyrider 0 #56 October 23, 2010 Dead at 23, He, (Kelly) left behind a wife and two kids, that were so young, they will probably never remember Daddy , all because someone didn't look before making a left turn...(Notice my leg is still in a cast, from my car/bike crash, that was a terrible summer.....) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/onekick/grapeape.jpg
RedDucati 0 #57 October 31, 2010 When a bike is hit by a car it is usually not the bike rider's fault. I have had cars TRY to hit me on purpose when I am riding. Probably because they have a small penis. Give the motorcycle some room please! If you have something to prove get a bike before you talk. skyrider 0 #66 November 22, 2010 Glad your friend stuck around to talk to police, that alone may make the difference... when the old man ran a redlight on me back in the 70's, No One, stuck around that saw it happen, so it came down to he said, she said...bullshit...(including the other vehicle he ran off the road that avoided hitting him) Gawd, if you witness something, stick around...(& help if you are trained to)
skyrider 0 #67 November 22, 2010 Here is what happens when No witnesses stick around, this was posted on the net as Biker tries to commit suicide, BULLSHIT, the truck turns left in front of him, the only witness, drives around the truck, and keeps going.. rehmwa 2 #68 November 22, 2010 I'd just assume all drivers (including the bikes too) wake up and watch for everything and stop driving self centered - motorcycles just being one thing on the list to watch for. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Your missing the point...People watch for cars and truck, hell even Bicycles, because they are Trained to look for them...They look right threw a motorcycle... If the concious effort to see a motorcycle isn;t made, poeple do not..(Or at least that is their favorite excuse when it happens!)
