regulator 0 #1 October 27, 2010 I have been wanting an RC heli for a while and just got around to getting one...(well actually two) I bought a cheap 3 channel to learn on and I have a very nice 6 channel for when I get better and am ready to move up. But it's like owning a wingsuit and you dont have enough jumps...nice to look at but you know youd screw something up if you flew it. So does anyone else fly RC aircraft on this forum? LongWayToFall 0 #5 October 28, 2010 I have been flying RC planes since I was little. My dad still does, sometimes I will meet with him and he will let me take the stick for awhile. Never ventured into helicopters, although I am actually building a autogyro. I highly recommend a simulator!!!!!!!!!!!
SASpacey 0 #6 October 28, 2010 Ermm..well crap never thought I'd post something on DZ but guess this is something I can help on if help is needed. Been and probably will forever be a lurker on here, but yea RC's my game. Pretty serious about it all also. Got a little tired of competition and and so now I do all the fun things rc again, which one of them are designing/building and jumping RC Skydivers. I was looking at pictures and info on canopies while designing and building my own which lead me to the DZ looking at pictures and reading up. Now I kinda enjoy the banter and stories on here, while trying to keep up with canopy advances etc. If you need heli help gimme a shout, I can try. Still own 6 of the things and fly them regularly. Runryder.com is your USA heli forum! Great place for oodles of info.
regulator 0 #7 October 28, 2010 The nice heli I have is a walkera creata 400....I have a double horse 3 volitation 3 channel I've been using to learn on...I finally got the setup right and have been hovering for several minutes at a time in my garage...just taking it slow. I currently have a simulator but it's a total piece of crap. Have you heard of this simulator by any chance? http://www.realflight.com/g5_5features.html I was looking at getting this one around christmas time... jdathome 0 #8 October 28, 2010 I used to love building and flying R/C! I started flying models when I was around 7 or 8 with my dad. Of course then we just got dizzy going in circles flying our control line, or u-control, planes. I built my first R/C plane when I was 14. The included photo is a quarter scale Airtec Eagle. Small chain saw motor swinging a 18" prop. 6 1/2' wing span. I was in my early twenties and it was the mid 80's, when the picture was taken. The helicopter is a .30 size Shuttle ZX. Very sweet machine. Loops, rolls and inverted flight are all possible. I never bought one of the computer radios, so inverted was impossible for me at the time. I was able to do loops and rolls. I even pulled off a couple “auto rotations” too! When the motor dies, it’s your only hope! I also have owned two versions of the Real Flight line. I have the Real Flight Deluxe and Real Flight G3.5. You’ll want a fast computer and lots of RAM to run the newer version. But I recommend Real Flight to develop you mad skillz…lol. Have fun and keep the blades on. Some day I will go back to building airplanes. Not too many things in life are as satisfying as building it, making it pretty and then flying it! “Almost” as good as the first time you took the door for a skydive….ALMOST! skybill 22 #9 October 29, 2010 Hi Reg, One thing about flying model airplanes. "There isn't a model airplane crash that I was involved in that I havn't walked away from!!" Nuf said. Looking around the room, Skydiving gear in one corner, I'm at the desk, on the other side, my Sensoar <2Meter 2-ch Sailplane> and a bunch of rolled up model airplane plans. Have fun with the helo, tracking, trimming and balancing blades for starters!! From stick and tissue, dime store hand toss gliders, circle burners, R/C U-name it and on!! Ever since I was a kid and would watch my brother and his buds try to start his Olson .23 ignition engine !! circa 1947-48!! Late 70's-80's-90's ridge soaring the coast in So. Cal. Play on Gypsies, play on! Oh BTW, after night dives at the DZ (Perris), I'd scrounge the chem lites and tape them to my Wanderer <2 Meter 2-ch Sailplane> and night fly with my upstart launcher.SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

Flew RC for the first time in 1956. Built my own RC system from scratch in 1964. I have 13 planes and 3 helis at home right now. I wrote the world's first R/C simulator in 1984 (marketed by "Dave Brown Products") and I sold over 50,000 of them.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. An autogyro I designed was featured in the now defunct RC Modeler magazine some 20 years ago, and was kitted for a while. Modern designs are much more sophisticated, but this was one of the first successful RC autogyros.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. LongWayToFall 0 #13 October 30, 2010 Nice! Mine is what I think is called a direct control, where the servos control the pitch and roll of the rotor head, and I am going to build it as an electric, from the original .10-.12 glow motor. Should be fun! Anything to know about the flying characteristics?? I have heard they turn easier in the direction of the backward moving blade, how noticeable is this? Have you heard of this simulator by any chance? http://www.realflight.com/g5_5features.html I was looking at getting this one around christmas time... I have the Realflight5 and it's pretty good. I run it on my laptop and it works fine (with most of the extras turned down or off). The physics are pretty accurate, and the controller is really nice. Running it on a 17" screen means flying the smaller models is difficult because they appear really small. But if I fly the larger stuff, there's no problems (except for the fact that I don't fly very well). The PhoenixFly is supposed to be decent too, but I've never flown it. The shops around here have the sims set up in the store and allow you to try them out. I tried the RealFlight for a bit before I bought it to see how good it was. I fly a Blade CP, and have smashed up a lot of main rotor blades, but haven't had any significant crashes (yet). shah269 0 #15 November 1, 2010 I have or had and will eventually rebuild a superfly. http://www.superflyrc.com/ Now if you don't have a huge field to fly in I would highly suggest you get one of these. http://www.rc-airplane-world.com/parkzone-ember.html or http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=PKZ3380 Best bang for the buck? I would say the Vapor. At about $100 you can fly it in your back yard and not get bored!Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay.
