massage therapy?

so i'm toying with the idea of getting my license in massage therapy and leaving my current job in a bank cubicle.

any massage therapists on this site? do you get health insurance? is it fairly easy to get a job somewhere? i was sort of hoping that id be able to move around more with this sort of job but i'm not sure how realistic i'm being.

Start off having it as an additional skill-set. Get certified, then ply your trade at the DZ after jumping on weekends (you can also use this as the way to get your practice hours while you're learning). If it pays well enough, then start to consider leaving your "day job." Or, use it as a way to supplement your current income (this way you can keep whatever benefits the bank already offers).

Benefits will depend on how you want to work. If you set up your own company and work independently, you can get various types of insurance for the self-employed. If you get hired on by a resort or spa, then the benefits will vary by the company. You would have to check with prospective employers to see what's offered.

BTW, I'm with Deedy -- I'd be more than happy to help a student massage therapist get more practice! In fact, my shoulders are kind of tight today....

thanks for the suggestions though, thats a good idea. i think someone at my DZ already has massage posters up though....but maybe part time work at a spa would be a good start while i slave away in this bank job for now :)
