And just remaining on one heading is 90% of the battle. I get the point - but I do get frustrated when I see people get bent about tracking perp to LOF but never talk about winds and exit separation. That's why I like seeing these threads so much. Despite Timmy's excellent and well stated positions on the subject (holding heading as a different subject than tracking direction - which I consider related), Rugby's point is fine (try and backslide perp to the LOF), but once they learn to control heading (for real) - they tend to move to 2ways - then I suspect they spend most of the time trying to face each other than a lake (or a barn, or the town) etc. ("hey, we almost got our first sit dock, but then I realized I wasn't facing the lake, so I turned away" - happens all the time, right?) anyway - this is not a productive digression. I'll withdraw and apologize to Rugby - I'm sure those DZs are doing what they believe is best and have some success at it. It really would be great for newbies to have an additional goal on solos to help learning. ... popsjumper 2 #78 October 2, 2010 QuotePardon my ignorance here but why not just run jump line perpendicular to the winds? It was just a joke playing on the well-known speed, well I should say lack of speed, of the AN-2. But, in reality, that's just what we did. Wendy (WM999) was just before me in the door. I got her exit on her camera for her. Either way, cross-wind would have done nothing for us. We exited at 5K and that's not a lot of altitude for a significant amount of drift anyway since the winds were well below 100mph. (that's a joke too)My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
erdnarob 1 #79 October 2, 2010 Just illustrating what I was saying earlier about the drifting distance between freeflyers and belly flyers. ThanksLearn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.
