how much is to much work?

Recommended Posts

I did 84hr weeks for a while. I'm totally out of debt and taking the next year+ off work to travel and stuff. Some people might buy a house or something but it's paid off pretty well for me. It helped being able to live in my van at the DZ while i was doing this. Get home from work, do a jump have a beer go to bed and repeat.

I did that in my early 30's...worked 19 months without a day off once.

Yes the money was goodGREAT, but also you NEED to have a life...something to spend it on.

I think it depends on your situation, I would do it again, but NOT for 19 months straight. :S

Take a few days off and smell some roses! ;)

I've done a minimum of 84 a week for the past 6 months.

I don't recommend it.

I did it for 18 months, wasn't that bad. Got some good holiday time while I was at it. Had a good quality of life while I was doing it and it wasn't really stressfull work. I didn't get much sleep but I'm catchin up on that now.

You are doing exactly the right thing. Take advantage of the time to explore.

Given your location, what else are you going to do with your time? :P
Besides your 84 hour weeks include dz.comming, facebooking, and calling all your favorite skydivers. :o:)

I worked on the road for 7 years, film and marketing production gigs, sleeping in tents sometimes. People used to get on me about not giving myself much time, but I was lucky, on my one day off a week I would do laundry and skydive and DZs across the country. My reply to them was "until I can have the life I want, I will have no life at all." Dave Ramsey, a money radio talk so hosts has a good one too..."live like no other, so that later, you can live like no other." :)

It's nuts to put yourself through that but if you have solid goals in mind it can be worth it. Guess it depends on what you're willing to sacrifice...

I've worked like that for the past 5 years... I gave up on hanging out with friends, jumping, sleep, relationships, and a lot more besides. But now I'm in the South of France looking for a house to buy B|. If I went back in time would I do it again? Yep.
