SkydiveJack 1 #1 August 22, 2010 My wife and I flew up to an airport open house today in Alma, Michigan. We know some of the people there who brought in their Warbirds. Vlado Lenoch asked me if I wanted to go up with him in his P-51D named “Moonbeam McSwine”. I about fell over!!! Oh, and by the way he says, we will be flying in formation with a F4U Corsair for a little bit before we go do some aerobatics! It just keeps getting better. As the son of a 30 year US Air Force pilot I developed two dreams when I became a skydiver and a pilot. One was to jump from a B-17 since my dad flew them in WWII. I got that jump some years ago at Rantoul. The other was to fly in a P-51 Mustang, one of the great planes that protected the Bombers. Today I fulfilled the second dream. Today was a damn good day! JohnMitchell 16 #10 August 23, 2010 I got to fly in John Bagley's "Ole Yeller", Bob Hoover's old plane. He took me out and did his 20 minute aerobatic routine he does at airshows. It was so cool I didn't even really care if I went skydiving later that morning or not. Smooth pilot, great plane.

Beerlight 0 #13 August 23, 2010 Quote If it’s any consolation, there weren’t any controls in the back. When I was young, a local cropduster pilot owned a P-51 and an F-4U. I wanted sooo bad as a 12 year old to go up with him, but never had the chance. Sadly, he sold both in the late 70's.Hopefully soon, I will get my chance....... shah269 0 #15 August 23, 2010 Simply amazes me how many of those amazing birds we just cut up for scrap instead of selling to civilians. Just sad really!Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools! kasch 0 #16 August 23, 2010 That is pretty incredible! I'm jealous you got to jump out of a B17 too but wow flying in a Mustang! Mustangs and Corsairs have long been two of my favorite warbirds, lucky man!!Sex with sith is like sex with a stripper. A lot of flashing lights and waving of glowing sabers, but in the end you end up with something dark and wrinkely. DPH# "-13" TSK# "-13"

Read the book "Fighter Pilot" about Robin Olds. In it he described at the end of WWII at his airfield in Germany, how literally hundreds of "new" P-51's (less than 5 hours on the airframe!) were scrapped. The people I know that fly these rare Warbirds all tend to say the same thing. They don’t really own them, they are just the caretakers. They have the privilege and joy of flying them as they preserve them for everyone else. It’s quite an investment of time and money.

AHoyThere 0 #22 August 23, 2010 What a great opportunity. Not too long ago, they were selling P-51 rides at our local airport. $2,200 for 30 minutes or $3,200 for an hour. I think you got a better deal. Thanks for sharing.

lekstrom10k 0 #24 August 24, 2010 Hi Jack , Were on the ground so I can say it. In case you were wondering who Moon beam Mc Swine was , She was from Al Capps cartoon" Lil Abner". Did you ever get to see Jack Rousch's P-51 when he came to Napoleon? He also brought out AT-6's. I won a ride with him for the P-51 but gave it away as I cant stand the stubby little fuck. I'll always hate the guy who saved him 2 or 3 crashes ago. I was involved bussiness wise with him
