That is a B-45 Tornado. Less than 200 were delivered.

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Now that looks like something Fairey Aircraft would have designed in the 60's. Maybe something from Vertol??

Fairey Rotodyne I think its called. I happened to go to a lecture about gyroplanes by one of the Groen brothers last year. They're developing a gyroplane similar to that. (it's not a helicopter...the rotors are powere by tip jets for takeoff only, then unpowered for the rest of the flight).

Douglas XB-43. Ok, I had to use a book for that one.
Here's one. Hint: it's not a turbine powered bird dog.

That's the Douglas XB-43A Jetmaster, which was a jet conversion of the XB-42A Mixmaster. I think there was only one. It was actually more interesting as a propeller plane.

It's French...a Cougar Horizon, AS532? Otherwise, I'm stumped...

Yep... first link on google: http://www.helis.com/50s/h_rotdyn.php
Saw some videos of it. Really cool design. Could land and take off vertically in small areas. No need for a tail rotor because of the tip jets (no torque on the fuselage). Then it would build speed, shut down the tip jets, and cruise along as a gyroplane. I think the prototype crashed and they abandoned the project or something. Can't remember.

Yeah it did go down. It was a very expensive project at a time when British aerospace was very innovative but grossly under funded I think the original Harrier was the only succesful design from that period.

Th PAC750XL is infact a stretched re-engined version of the Cresco.
Ugly but well hung. It boasts some impressive stats in regards to payload and turn around time. No prizes for guessing the power plant.

This is probably an easy one.. although it is a slightly less common jump plane.
Can you identify it ?
Some of you may have even jumped it.
Perhaps more amusing; can you think of a good speech caption for this pic ?
"Hey Bob, hand me down the torque wrench.. I think I see the fault.."

Lockheed Vega? Beech 18.
As for the caption... That's it fixed... try starting it!"

Yeah... OK... gotta get a harder one next time.
On a £3Mil development they flew prototypes over 300 hours, including a $hitload of vertical landings, takeoffs, transitions etc...
Fairey needed another £5Mil to get the thing into production but the government said no. End of project. THEN the government spent £10Mil on Boeing Chinooks! The Chinook was slower, more expensive to run and tended to crash!
Shame... It'd have made a killer jump plane
, big clamshell doors at the back, width of a C-130, took75pax. Virtually uncrashable with that big autorotor.
Still, with the Osprey V-22 some of the more advanced colonies have started to catch up...

You're thinking of the F-16XL. That program is competed. This is indeed not an F-16 and does not have a delta wing, the canopy gives it away too. But I still don't know.

They also produced a version with different wing on one side than the other.

Beech 18. Correct.

Ok. Here's one... Again it's not hard so after you've identified it... How much & which DZ should buy it

I WAS thinking Martin B-57 (the knockoff of the English Electric Canberra) but I think it's a bit bigger...
Then again, the Canberra came in so many guises.
OK, I'm gonna go Martin B-57 variant.
Mike.
PS - Name this... a SERIOUSLY suitable skydiving "vertical transport system"
