Gawain 0 #102 September 22, 2003 Quotealright smarty-pants, how about this one? That's a Russian Be-200. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Gawain 0 #107 September 22, 2003 Quoteand this one? That's technically not a plane. But, it's Russian, or Ukrainian...the designation escapes me though. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! diablopilot 2 #109 September 22, 2003 QuoteTh PAC750XL is infact a stretched re-engined version of the Cresco. Ugly but well hung. It boasts some impressive stats in regards to payload and turn around time. No prizes for guessing the power plant. It is a PT6-27 powered A/C, A design based on the success of the cresco, but re-enginered airframe. Many subtle changes were nessesary to make the final product perform as well as it does. From what I've heard, with the equvilent of 6 jumpers on board it was still pulling ove 2100 fpm, at 14k msl a month or two ago, on some check out rides.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Gawain 0 #110 September 22, 2003 Quotesorry, you got me on that one... Chinese Q-5, whose sheer numbers is the biggest problem, more than 1000 built. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! sinker 0 #111 September 22, 2003 it's an orlyonoks A-90, the civilian one... the black and white I posted next is the "Caspian Sea Monster" so designated from US intelligence (I think) who saw this fast moving large thing skating across the caspian sea during the cold war. Um, I think it can be argued that it is a plane... it banks, it travels independent of the surface, albeit in ground effect, and can even raise above ground effect for a while. Yeah, I know... it's not strictly a plane but it isn't a hover craft either. -the artist formerly known as sinker
Gawain 0 #112 September 22, 2003 You got me good on that. I'm not complaining, but it is too bad that so many of those craft the Russians built are now collecting rust or dust or both. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! sinker 0 #113 September 22, 2003 looks like we stump each other... I just love this shit. True about the ruskies and their penchant for either xeroxing our designs or coming up w/ such bizarro stuff that it never goes anywhere. Too much Vodka I guess. one last one before bed... an easy one... one of my favorite experimentals... -the artist formerly known as sinker
Gawain 0 #114 September 22, 2003 I know nothing about civilian experimental aircraft...so automatic stump. Looks like it scoots though. bergh 0 #116 September 22, 2003 BTW regarding the DC -3. The South African air force currently has the most DC-3 still in service. No other country has more and yes most of them are upgraded to turbine and if your were lucky enough to be in South Africa with Pretoria skydiving clubs 40 birthday you would have been able to jump it. riggerrob 643 #124 September 22, 2003 DeHavilland of Canada Cariboo transport. I jumped Cariboos at California City and Elsinore. Thousands of soldiers from Canada and a variety of African nations have done static-line jumps from Cariboos. The Royal Australian Air Force still flies Cariboos. A few American DZs have tried operating Cariboos as jump planes, but unfortunately radial engines have fallen out of fashion.
mr2mk1g 10 #125 September 22, 2003 Ok so perhaps this will stump some of you... this would make an awsome jump plane if any were still flying. The were used by paratroopers, would take 2 light tanks or 70 paratroopers (inc 30 in the tail section!) Guesses...
