BIGUN 1,296 #1 April 17, 2005 With a full moon coming up next weekend, I was in a large retail outfit the other day and came across an excellent replacement for chemlights. It is a red or yellow L.E.D. Flash or Glow Illumination. Adjustable Elastic strap with quick-release buckle. According to them... Visible over 1 mile in the dark Easy to replace long-life battery included 100,000 hour L.E.D. life Reuseable - environmentally friendly Perfect replacement for chemical light sticks 3 Modes - Flash, Glow, Reflect. The replacement battery is a CR2032. The following is their website directed to the "Marker Band," but you may wish to wade around the site for other night jump ideas.. http://www.niteize.com/productdetail.php?category_id=26&product_id=38&PHPSESSID=6585057f7e4894d059bf1ad5e7eaa034Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. airtwardo 7 #2 April 17, 2005 I have a couple of those... At REI they have those as well as several other types, there is a smaller round LED that's a lot brighter...35.00 US. I use a stadard strobe on the back of my leg and started putting the REI~LED strobe on top of my helmet pointing up... It's really bright and stays lit a heartbeat longer than the military strobe...the whole canopy flashes on & off...can't miss it and it looks cool. Also doesn't interfear with your night vision. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

mjosparky 4 #7 April 19, 2005 Do any of them meet the 3 mile requirement as per Part 105? SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
BIGUN 1,296 #8 April 19, 2005 My initial posting does not. They are a substitute option for chemlights for freefall with an advertised visibility of one mile. Still recommend a strobe under canopy to meet the three mile...Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. Hooknswoop 19 #10 April 19, 2005 QuoteDo any of them meet the 3 mile requirement as per Part 105? Um, sure, why not?. As long as they work, it's not like the FAA is going to check. Derek

Derek I got ramped checked by the FAA on a night demo a few years ago. All of us were wearing military type strobes. He mentioned that they were one of the few lights he would approve and he was prepared to pull our 7711-1 if we had not had them.SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
Hooknswoop 19 #12 April 19, 2005 Ya, for demos you have to have your stuff wired, but for normal, DZ, night jumps..... Derek
