TiaDanger 0 #1 July 19, 2010 I know there are ways to make a firm bed softer, i.e., by using featherbeds, and soft mattress pads. But, is there anyway to make a soft bed more firm? Are there any mattress toppers, such as eggshell or something else that will help? I hate my soft mattress, but don't have the funds to buy another bed, or even have it transported to my house. No funds because I can't stop spending money on tunnel and jump tickets You know, priorities first. So have any of you ever bought a certain mattress topper that made your bed more rigid/less soft and plushy? And for the record: the appropriate ranking of cool modes of transportation is jet pack, hover board, transporter, Batmobile, and THEN giant ant. NWFlyer 2 #2 July 19, 2010 In the college dorms we'd put a piece of plywood under the mattress (these were basic dorm bunks with just a bed frame and mattress, no box springs) to give more support on the ragged-out old mattresses. Don't know how that would work if you had a box spring, tho."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. wmw999 2,451 #10 July 20, 2010 Works just fine; put the plywood (and make sure it's 1/2" -- 1/4" will flex too much) between teh box spring and the mattress. Something that I've found helps also is to have coarser, thicker sheets. The really high-thread-count sheets feel too soft, and accent the softness of the bed. Percale is best for that. And a tight sheet feels firmer than a loose one. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. theonlyski 8 #12 July 20, 2010 SO, it seems that you're having a problem with going to bed and it being too 'soft'. What I suggest is find something that you like to spend plenty of time on that has no problems being 'firm'. It should be free and depending what kind of deal you work out, might even get a free dinner or two out of it!"I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

BillyVance 34 #19 July 20, 2010 Wendy is right. Plywood works, at a certain thickness. I have a 1/2" piece of plywood cut for the queen size bed that I've had for 12 years. Keeps it nice and firm. All my guests love it. I use a king size bed in the master bedroom. wmw999 2,451 #23 July 20, 2010 Note that a lot of new mattresses can't be flipped any more; they're one-sided. Even the mattress salesman said it was a pretty transparent form of planned obsolescence. He wasn't pleased with it, either. TiaDanger 0 #24 July 20, 2010 Let's see...30 years younger would make me....-4 years old...no bueno! I've flipped the head where its now the footer, but this one cant be flipped over. You know, I just hate when mattresses build 'dents' in them over time, even though you move around. No matter where on the edge you start, gravity ends up rolling you into the middle! I'll try the plywood. Maybe I just need to SUICC and get a firmer mattress.
