Adventures in dating - a chronicle of a first date

and spent 75 bucks on dinner and I thought it would have been nice if you maybe paid for the beer or something.

Okay, the women may flame me for this, but I say never spend a lot of money of the first date. Casual dinner, maybe a movie, but you're setting the bar, and expectations, too high. The first date is a "get to know ya" time, not the Senior Prom. Keep it light and easy.:)
And if you end up in the sack, cool.B|:):$

I actually disagree with you for once John!!! :D:D

I think it depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for the kind of girl who will be impressed by money and expects to be maintained, you will have to spend a lot on a first date. And guys - don't make fun.. There are plenty of people (men and women) who are impressed with money and as long as those people stick together the rest of us can go on getting to know our dates over a cheap meal! :D:D:P

Dinner wasn't that much (for Monterey, CA). I think his 75 bucks included the tip or is a little exaggerated. My entree was a whole whopping $18, plus a salad :o

Um, excuse me?? I live in London, which is supposed to be one of the most expensive cities in the world and there is NO WAY IN HELL I would pay $18 bucks on a starter. That *is* a lot of money.

Well, I did once take a date to the OXO tower, and that cost like £200, but it was a BIG occasion (for me), and I invited him, so I paid.

But I do think $18 for a starter, for a first date.. Well, that's a lot to invest in a stranger.

I agree $18 is a lot for a starter, but my entree was $18. My starter was a salad, only a few dollars. I'm guessing my share of the tab was around $25, including my iced tea.

Heh heh.. Looks like the computer doesn't recognise the funny symbols!!! :D:D

But yeah, if you meant the main, that changes things slightly..

Still, the problem isn't that he paid a lot.. The problem is that he seems to have had expectations as to what that meal would get him.. (Despite his protesting, it sounds like he actually was expecting some nookie..)

My view is: by all means give him a second chance, but those are some serious red flags.. [:/]

Nope, I don't know which of his multiple personalities I'd be giving a second chance to. B|:o:ph34r: That door has closed.

Thanks for reminding me why I don't date. Wow.

I really don't think you'd be a dork like that.:D
You know, it was dating that led me to marrying Vskydiver.;) It ain't all bad.:)

Correct. I would not. But the nutjobs are prolific in both the male and female camps.

And yours is a life truly blessed. :)
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

I guess one of the side benefits of my job (I work in a community mental health center) is that I have developed a really, really good crazy filter for dating.

Run away, this one is not psychotic but will create tons of drama, obviously.

I am a grammar snob, too, even in texting.

I'm not a rocket scientist but
1) This guy sounds really strange!
2) You think way too much!
3) You should have asked Dr. Shah master of all things loving about this dude.
4) REALLY? I MEAN REALLY?
Ok, how many guys at your DZ? How many single half way decent live close to you have a good job and understand your love of the sport guys are at your DZ? I'm willing to bet at least one!
So..........why do you want to make it hard for yor self? Look how about next time we just starting a nice impossible long distance relationship with a guy who lives in NYC.
I mean really ladies! REALLY! I know I'm a pigdog but stop making my life easy! STOP DOING DUMB THINGS!
STOP MAKING YOUR LIFE DIFFICULT FOR NO OTHER REASON BECAUSE.....well because you love the drama.
Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay.

The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools!

Girl … you know this already. Something I have to remind myself too when I try this thing I hate called “dating”, is that when people show you who they are, you should believe them … the first time. (Somebody else, seemingly smart, said that … not me.)

Unless you really like him and consciously want to take the risk, walk away now ... save yourself a bunch of headache later :)

OK … and now that I took the time to read the whole thing, I can’t quite relate to what has become a main theme in the debate -- him paying for dinner … than chastise you for it … than you chastise him for being “cheap”.

I really don’t get this … even on a date, I always offer to pay half of the tab … and I’d say about 90% of the time they take me up on it. Problem solved … out the door goes the reason to even have this conversation.

What am I missing?

Then it must've been all the beer. :D;):)
