The NHL playoff thread!

Damn![:/]

Halak played out of his mind in the Caps series and now this one! He stoned Malkin with the fastest leg pad flash I have ever seen. This Montreal team reminds me a bit of when the Ducks rode JS Gigure's back all the way to the Cup.

The Pens have played a LOT of puck the last three seasons. When lost Hal Gill and Scuderi I was worried about our chances for a repeat. The Pens played BAAADDD tonight.:P

Now I don't know who to cheer for, so It's going to be for a Montreal/Chicago Original Six finals with that bitch Hossa crying when the Cup is handed over to the Habs!!!!;)

I have seen a LOT of games in the Igloo over the years. Great memories. That place was a neat old building. I'm looking forward to heading back to the Burgh next season to see a game at the new barn.

Montreal's penalty kill was outstanding! Like you, I can now, see big things ahead for the Canadiens. I think, I'd rather see them play Boston than Philly but the way they are playing... I don't think, it really matters. This is truly... the good stuff!

Tonight was an example of why I used to think MAF wasn't a good enough goalie to win a Cup. Letting in a couple of soft ones kills a team versus Halak picking his guys up at every opportunity. That one sequence where he stopped Malkin's shot and flashed the left pad on Crosby's shot of the rebound was just huge....and kind of summed up the series. Crosby/Malkin combined for 3 goals and 5 assists I think. Not enough production from the stars. Once again...good job of planning by Montreal and great execution of the plan.

When it was 4-0 I was nervous. A big lead can sometimes get you off your game. When the Pens got 2 by the end of the second I was very worried but Halak saved them in the third and the too many men penalty and resulting goal by the Habs pretty much ended the Pens chances for a comeback.

Now, what's up with Boston? They are about to join the ranks of the ultimate playoff chokers. I haven't seen much of those games but it looks to me like the Flyers want it way more than the Bruins. I really want a Montreal/Boston series so let's get it on Bruins...I'm cheering for you for one more game.

Flyers Bruins tied at 3 after 2. Flyers coming back from a 3-0 score. It's been all Flyers for bout 25-30 minutes. Bruins better get it together!

Glad to see the Habs there.

I have been a big fan since the 90's. I grew up in Vermont and we all know northern vermont is just a canada extension! Thursday night is hockey night in Canada!

You have to tip your hat to the Flyers. It would have been easy to lay down after giving up a three goal lead but they kept on battling.

But, how ironic is it that the Bruins downfall was partly the result of a too-many-men penalty? It sunk them in 1979 against the Habs as well.

I think the Habs would have a better chance against the Bruins but they have been giant killers so far this year so I'm hoping they can keep the magic happening. Right now it looks like there are two teams of destiny in these playoffs and they are going to go head to head.

Go Habs!!

Damn straight! On the brink of elimination for many games, then on the last game down 3-0 and a comeback to win 4-3. And away at that. Pure heart! This is the stuff dreams are made of.

Go Flyers!! B|

Both Montreal and Philly bring a lot of momentum into their respective series, but I have to think that the western teams San Jose and Chicago still have the better teams and I will go out on a limb and predict the Stanley Cup will go to a western team this year. But stranger things can and will happen. Who thought Montreal would beat Washington and Pittsburgh? Who thought Philly would become only the 3rd team in league history to come back from a 3-0 deficit in games? I said it early in this thread. A great goalie can beat a good team.

I am hoping for a Montreal / Chicago final (2 original six teams)

and ...

Montreal has not won the cup since 1993
Philly has not won the cup since 1975
Chicago has not won the cup since 1961 (at least they are not the Cubs)
San Jose has never won the cup since joining the league in 1991.

someone's bad streak will end this year.

Halak has been the goaltending star of the playoffs thus far but I think Leighton from Philly deserves credit for stepping in for the last two games after Boucher got hurt and playing pretty well.

We'll see if Halak can continue and carry the Habs to the Finals.

I think, the Canadiens can do it! Philly will be tough to get by but the Canadiens did knock-out Washington and Pittsburgh.
I'd like to see Chicago knock-off the Sharks and get that 'Original Six' thing going. Go Habs!!!

Fuck all this original 6 talk. Sharks vs. Habs for the cup, Sharks take it in 5.

Just so you all know, as much as I like the Sharks, I bailed on tickets to tomorrows game so I can go skydiving all day (It's my B-day and all I wanna do is jump my ass off) Looks like I will be at game 2!

Maybe, it doesn't mean much to all you 'newbie' hockey fans but to those of us who have been fans since before the Sharks were even a glimmer in the NHL's eye... it means something. For that matter... screw the Sharks... GO CHICAGO!!! GO HABS!!!
