Nataly 38 #1 May 30, 2010 So it's 6:30 pm on Friday, and I'm about to (finally) escape the office when I get a call from my boss' boss.. I reluctantly picked it up, and he was making small-talk like he was about to tell me something really unpleasant.. I thought he was gonna ask me to work all weekend, but no.. He was just calling to let me know that his boss' boss' boss just reversed her car into my bike and tipped it over!! D'oh! Luckily, the damage seems to be only cosmetic. Also lucky is that she has a company car & the company insurance will sort everything out. So now I'm wondering the obvious.. How much of a pay rise should I ask for?? ZigZagMarquis 9 #2 May 30, 2010 It could have been worse... you could have been sitting on it when the boss backed into it! Instead of a raise, why don't you see if you can get a couple of days off to get your bike fixed?

And when its done Nat could fly over to SoCal and ride it back to the UK... oh... wait... never mind...

Hee hee!! Well, she told me she picked up her phone and didn't want to talk and drive, so instead of going through the parking lot gate and onto the main road, she backed the car into the corner (which happens to be the motorcycle parking bay).. Being on the phone whilst driving is illegal in the UK.. So the reason she hit my bike is because she broke the law.. And I *could* put that in the police report, or I could ask for a raise!! No, not really. I mean yes, I could do that, but I wouldn't! Thing is, there were witnesses, and her colleagues are NEVER gonna let her live it down! To me, the one good thing in this is that hopefully now she's more aware of looking out for bikes. And if that translates into her driving and watching out for bikers, then she's just that little bit less dangerous to us on the roads. Don't think it's gonna be a big fix - looks like she was going slow and it tipped over - the damage seems pretty minimal."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

I'm guessing that the plastic got a bit scuffed/cracked. Frame Sliders are designed to hit the ground before the rest of the bike and prevent that kind of damage. Saved my bike twice when tipped, only damage is a scuff on the slider and the clutch lever got knocked down a bit, but now i actually like it there better so i haven't fixed it yet lol. Check ebay, i got mine off there as a set for relatively cheap. i just did a quick search and it looks like the puck and base are sold separately now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VORTEX-MOTORCYCLE-FRAME-SLIDER-PUCK-Blue-PAIR-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c08dedc32QQitemZ120407907378QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_1355wt_1167 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Frame-Slider-Bases-Suzuki-GSX-R600-GSX-R750-GSX-R1000-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3f00146b9cQQitemZ270584277916QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1182I treat my body like an amusement park

Meh.. I know it's just a 250, but it's still a Ninja, and still *looks* like a big bike (to those who don't know any better)!! Thing is.. I've never dropped my bike, but it's easily done.. And it seems to me a lot cheaper to install the slider than replace the panels.. People make fun of me because I wear pretty heavy-duty leathers.. And again, I couldn't care less.. I may look like a wannabe racer, but I'm guessing if I ever come off the bike I'll be *really* happy I invested in all that gear."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

davjohns 1 #23 May 31, 2010 Sorry to hear of your loss, Nat. I just cleaned up my sweet girl today. Didn't get to ride much because of rain. But we spent some quality time together just the same. Hope you and yours are well again soon. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

That's where they came from, but they are pretty widely used these days. They really aren't much different than the "crash bars" on some of the older bikes (functionally anyway). An investment of a hundred bucks or so can save a lot more then that in just a simple tip-over.
