Is it legal to ask for a criminal background check when renting?

Recommended Posts

It is in Texas...and anywhere that's worth renting in Houston asks.

If you've had 3 misdemeanors or a felony conviction in the past 5 years most places will not rent to you.

protects the property owner and YOU the renters as well.

Should be part of the application fee, non-refundable if you don't qualify...applied to the rent when you do.

Looking at getting an apartment in Houston and the chick wants a criminal background check.

Firstly is that legal secondly where do I get one done?

cheers.

The owner is responsible for acquiring the check. That is what the application fee is used for.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

Not necessarily true in all case. The charge for it is paid by the new tenete. It is part of the processing fee.

Criminal offenses as an adult are public record. In most states, you can go down to the courthouse and check the state records on anyone you want.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

They are not going to travel from Texas to Australia just to do that:ph34r::ph34r:

Just go to Wal-Mart and get an Air Bed...

~ use it for a while and return it for a full refund! :D:D:D

God bless America!

Yeah...and for the DZ, grab some camping gear and some lawn chairs too, while you're there.

Or get a hand-me-down sofa to crash on. Then donate it to the dropzone when you're done with it.

Some drop zones can't have too many sofas.

But make sure to yell "SHOW ME YOUR TITTIES! SHOW ME YOUR TITTIES!"

They'll ask you why - tell them you like to look at titties when you're screwing someone. ;)
