riddler 0 #1 May 23, 2010 I always file taxes on April 15. Usually I pay a lot during the year (quarterly), and get a small refund after April 15. I file on paper, but have them direct deposit my refund in my business bank account - the same one I've been using for years. I always triple-check everything, including the bank routing numbers, and there's never been a problem. This year, they sent me a notice that there was a problem because I submitted the wrong numbers on the direct deposit, so they are waiting three to four more weeks to send me a check. I verified the numbers - they are correct, and the same they've been for the last several years - never had a problem before. Is the government a little short of cash?? It could be a problem with them reading the numbers with their scanner, but it does really sound like they are stalling this time.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. SivaGanesha 2 #3 May 23, 2010 Quotein my business bank account I'm sure that's the problem. Personal tax refunds should go to your personal bank account. They may have taken awhile to figure out that you were using the wrong bank account--perhaps their software couldn't detect this error in the past--but they got wise to it this year. I think big institutions like the banks and government are getting way too anal about this kind of thing but that seems to be the nature of the times and I'm sure that's what happened."It's hard to have fun at 4-way unless your whole team gets down to the ground safely to do it again!"--Northern California Skydiving League re USPA Safety Day, March 8, 2014
riddler 0 #4 May 23, 2010 Sole proprietorship, so I am my business. The IRS doesn't distinguish between an SP account and a personal one. Every year, for the last several years, it's the same - same numbers, same bank account, same direct deposit. About 5 weeks to get the refund. No problems. Until this year. Right at the very time they are issuing me a direct deposit refund, they send me a letter instead that says I have to wait another month. Somewhere, deep in the bowels of the government, people are running around like mad trying to print more money.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. SivaGanesha 2 #5 May 23, 2010 QuoteSole proprietorship, so I am my business. The IRS doesn't distinguish between an SP account and a personal one... But there clearly ARE ways in which they could make that distinction. Maybe they audited someone with whom you do business without your knowledge. A canceled check deposited to your account might have surfaced in the audit and resulted in this account being flagged as a business account. And now they won't direct deposit a personal refund to that account. The IRS may very well be stalling in your case--they often do stall--but it would be because of something specific to your case (and they'll never tell you the exact reason)--not because they are in any danger of running out of money."It's hard to have fun at 4-way unless your whole team gets down to the ground safely to do it again!"--Northern California Skydiving League re USPA Safety Day, March 8, 2014

As I sit there bragging about my refund he keeps grinning saying he had it invested and made interest on it, not them.
BillyVance 34 #10 May 26, 2010 I did my taxes way early this year. Used to always wait until the last minute to file. I knew I had a big fat refund coming, with 2 kids to claim as dependents so I filed as soon as I got all the info together. A total of $7800+.
