quade 4 #3 May 2, 2010 I know that kind of looks interesting, but the reality is it's more limiting than an iPhone is right now. If the entire thing could be fitted into a pair of augmented reality HUD glasses they might have something, but the current requirement to project images on a surface blows chunks. It also means that the images are available for anyone around you to see and clearly there's nothing that's going to project images in daylight that would be even remotely wearable. Interesting stuff, but not thought all the way through yet.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #6 May 3, 2010 Did you not see all of my disclaimer verbiage? Specifically the use of the words "right now"? The video projection aspects of this will almost certainly never work in daylight. I can not in my wildest imagination conceive of a wearable projector with the required lumen output to work in outdoor settings. It's not being a "half empty" kind of guy. It's simply knowing what does and doesn't work in outdoor displays.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Which is why you are most likely not an inventor? How can you say something is not possible when the only reason it seems impossible, is because it has not been done before. Quote It's simply knowing what does and doesn't work in outdoor displays. You should have specifically used the words "right now" in that sentence."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
quade 4 #8 May 3, 2010 I'm guessing you're one of those guys that thinks "anything" actually is possible. If you think it, it can happen. Lemme tell ya flat out, some things simply aren't possible from a practical standpoint and as far as any projection systems go in the conceivable future, this simply isn't practical in an outdoor setting. There simply isn't any technology that exist right now or in the conceivable future that would make it so. It's a bit like saying you've invented a way to stop time because "if you could go the speed of light you could stop time." Well, thanks a lot Mr. Einstein and Hawking, that's all fine and good, but for any practical purposes, it's simply not possible since there's simply no way to create the amount of energy required to do it, nor will there be in any conceivable future. If by some technological miracle a group LED lasers could be projected at high enough amplitude, using low enough power to make the entire device portable; they would need to be several times brighter than the sun and would blind people if accidentally exposed to them. As I said in my very first response to this, some sort of wearable "sunglasses" type HUD display would be far more practical. It would give the exact same illusion to the wearer and is not just conceivable, but is an actuality today. You can buy them off the shelf. Co-locate a video camera on those glasses and you have the i/o essentials of the system.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Having used many of the actual small HUDs,even this is still a pretty hefty challenge to overcome as it doesn't matter how small your make the HUD or what you incorporate it into, there is still a considerable amount of electronics and batteries it has to hook into to work. Daylight also adds challenges to these types of systems as well. At the moment, unless you work for the Government or have money to burn, there isn't anything out there that would be worth spending your money on as far as sunglass HUDs go as a way of doing what the guy in the video was describing. The way I look at it, this(video) isn't even what I would call 1st generation stuff, a lot of it is still concept, prototypes and or semi working prototypes. And everyone knows, you don't buy the first generation of anything unless you're a bleeding edge person or don't mind buying it cheaper with more features/options 6 months to a year down the road."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

Exactly. Every pager or phone I've ever had were a year or two old technology. My brother on the other hand, bought the first generation iPhone on the first day it came out.
