JerryBaumchen 1,424 #27 May 1, 2010 Hi John, Quote Join the Air Force, See Texas. Now, be nice. The Air Force put me in SoCal for 13 months, England for 11 months & France for 15 months. No complaints; but d*** glad I did not re-up. JerryBaumchen

Now, just because they chose to keep me in San Antonio for 11 freakin years, doesn't mean it'll happen to everyone, right? haha
Beerlight 0 #31 May 1, 2010 Quote Quote Jump ship, and join the Air Force. That Navy housing rule is ridiculous. You can't get on the list UNTIL you arrive?! damn... Hope you get something soon though... If only I had thought about that 8 years ago... Oh wait I did... I am Air Force... (I've been in Dayton for the past several years...) but am in a Joint assignment at a NAS... That's gotta suck. In my 23 yrs. active duty in the AF, I went to a Navy base TDY a couple times. Billeting suckkkked... Food, eh. But they treated senior enlisted guys really good. Good luck on getting out of that assignment at the earliest op...... I've been to Lakehurst NAS before and although the area around the installation isn't great the officer VQ was really nice... and honestly as long as we can get in military housing and my wife can get gainfully employed we'd be more or less content... even in this area...Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... It isn't like he is making a major complaint....He is voicing the opinion that sometimes it sucks.... Why do you feel military have no right to complain....kind a curious about that one... Why do you feel military have no right to complain....kind a curious about that one...I'd venture a guess that he is saying that compared to another service installation (such as Army/Marine) the Air Force or Navy have it relatively well... Whereas I don't know how accurate a disparity in the quality of life at an Army installation versus AF or Navy... I have heard over the years the disparity between the quality of life at home (CONUS) has decreased... Of course if he is military in general then I'd have to agree... Granted the DOD does more or less compensate us for relocation expenses... however we (my wife and I) do lose a substantial portion of our annual income (because she was working fulltime before we relocated) and isn't any longer... granted we can live on my income... but... it is a stressful losing a portion of our income... It is also very stressful picking up everything and moving away from friends and familiar places... and it doesn't help not having a simple to move into place ready and waiting when we arrive... (which is the intention of military housing) Finally until we locate a place we are effectively without a resident... we don't have a home... we've had a home for most of my life... but right now the only place we can "receive" mail is several hundred miles away... and you'd be surprised how often you get asked for a mailing address... we don't have one right now... I can get (and have) a PO box but a number of places don't allow a PO box as an alternative to a mailbox... Now... I chose this profession... I understand that there are stresses associated with the profession... above and beyond the job itself... but that doesn't mean I don't reserve the right to complain about some of the things that sometimes don't workout the way I'd like them to... whew that was long winded...Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
