Vanguard: The Oxycontin Express

Recommended Posts

It's not a report, it's a tv show. It highlights the growing trend of doctors turned legal narcotic drug dealers. Basically people paying for doctor's visits to get prescriptions for large amounts of narcotics.:)

This is a few months old so sorry if this is a repost. I searched for Vanguard and didn't see anything so I thought I would post it.

It's kinda long but very interesting. Scary too.

Worse is that people in severe pain (who didn't choose to get that way) are being told to live with it so their doctors don't have to deal with DEA scrutiny.

Thanks for doing the summary for me.

P.S. This is of particular interest to those of you who live in Florida. Or Kentucky or Tennesse or Ohio.

It is scary, someone very close to me is suffering from this legal poison!!! >:(

but marijuana is illegal (( hmmm, i guess cause the consumer can just grow what they want and there is no way to tax it)) but of course that is just my opinion on this subject.

This is probably heading into SC-land .. but, are you saying they're suffering because they're taking Oxycontin?

Why is it the government's responsibility to protect people from themselves ?

I've never taken oxycontin, but I know it can be a lifesaver for people with severe pain, but because it doesn't have the additives (tylenol and iburprofen) that other opiates do, there is a high potential for abuse. When only vicodin or something similar is prescribed, there is the risk of insufficient pain relief. The drug exists and is prescribed because there is a need for it. However, that need is very specific.

Unfortunately, because of the hightened FDA scrutiny some doctors are reluctant to prescribe opiates, and others do not prescribe them at all, which leaves legitimate pain patients either in pain or feeling like criminals. Neither of those is a good option.

It's only legal when you have a prescription.

Nope. I know people with chronic pain where the only cure is suicide and opiates a stopgap that their families prefer.

All opiates should remain legal with a prescription, and the DA should back off on doctors prescribing them to pain patients that can't get relief other ways.
