Yes this is fascinating stuff.

Philip Zimbardo (Stanford Prison Experiment) wrote an excellent book called the Lucifer Effect that goes into more detail on that and the psychology behind it- highly recommend to the readers amongst us. People and our brains are some crazy stuff..
