rehmwa 2 #53 April 7, 2010 QuoteWhat I mean is--w/r/t a future Clooney role I would like to see--I think Clooney is capable of playing a main character that is dark, distrubing with a sick habit or desire. Not a two-dollar horror film, but a good thriller. That would be cool, he has the look. I just don't think he's good enough to pull off a serious performance like that so far out of his comfort zone. I put him in with (as a lesser version) of guys like Jack Nicholson, Tommy Lee Jones, or Samuel Jackson - guys that pretty much play the same role in every single movie they star in. Cashing in on the type casting. (nods to a couple of Jack's films where he stepped out his 'typical' style, About Schmidt was one - but I hated that movie even though I thought he did something new with himself in it) Give me former comedians (without the pretensions of the so-called 'arteeeests') that really know how to pretend and you see some of the best performances and performance ranges - I really think Robin Williams, Jim Carey, Will Smith and the like have amazing range and talent and aren't just "one character" actors. edit: wow, my spelling is atrocious today ... PLFXpert 0 #55 April 7, 2010 Largely agree with your assessment of the fore-mentioned comedians--Jim Carrey, especially. I love him. I do not know I have noticed that about Nicholson. I think the difference is, I love Nicholson, but Clooney annoys me. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
happythoughts 0 #56 April 9, 2010 Quote I do not know I have noticed that about Nicholson. I think the difference is, I love Nicholson, but Clooney annoys me. Nicholson played crazy (Shining) and grumpy (As good as it gets), tough (the Marine Col). Believable. I think he could be grumpy and crazy in his real life. Clooney has tried tough, but he comes across like a department store manager playing Bad Cop. He doesn't do it any better than everyday people if they tried. As Mr. Charming... seems like a grown up In-Sync member. Maybe that is just a lack of interest in watching a movie with that role.
PLFXpert 0 #57 April 9, 2010 As Good as it Gets is tied with Forest Gump as my all-time favorite movie. I think I have, like, 10 or 20 movies tied for second. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
