maxmadmax 8 #1 April 1, 2010 Greetings, Went down to the barn, moved a tarp and there it was....Mr./Ms. Snake. I snagged it and put into a secure container. Labeled the container with warnings! Sure, I agree that if it is a venomous it isn't particularly safe to have around... however unless I misunderstood his post... maxmadmax is the one who wrote "DANGER" on the container... Most of the snakes found in the US are completely harmeless (if it has a rattle, stay away)... and actually having a gopher snake, rat snake, garter snake in your yard/barn is very good for reducing the rodent and insect population... which is IMHO much worse then the snake popluation... because a mouse will get in my food... a snake will merely eat the mice (or other small rodents...) Personally, I would let it go... but that's just me...Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...

You are even being entertained by partaking in this post. How far is far enough and how much time is the snake worth investing? 12 linear feet is my guess. Not far enough to make a difference if he doesn't want to keep it. NOW - back to the poll . . . I don't believe that he was wanting feelgood wimpy-assed tree huggin opinions. He was actually just bored and wanted controversy over which type of machete or axe to use.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Sletzer 3 #15 April 1, 2010 Working with a forestry company I see snakes several times a month. We usually only kill the poisonous ones that are in our way, and let the non-poisonous ones go about their business. For whatever it's worth...I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Thanks for all your support! *bows* SCS #8251
skyrider 0 #16 April 1, 2010 No matter what, I woudl let it live , but would like to see a better (closer) picture of it, it almost appears to have the triangle Viper head, nto a harmless rat snake, but the colors look liek a harmlesss snake worth living in a barn or shed to eat rodents! (Both will eat rodents for you, but any type of viper(Poinsonous snake) is better off left in the woods!

gravitysurfer 0 #21 April 1, 2010 Yep. That's a Mexican Boot Snake for sure. Years ago, when I worked at Eloy, I saw those nasty things all the time. Local conservationists blamed them for killing off most of the Sand Trout populations from the dry river beds. aloha.

maxmadmax 8 #25 April 2, 2010 Ahhh…..perception and reality are sometimes two diverse subjects. Some have "read" the post whilst others have not. There is no Mexican Boot snake that I know of. There is no Lirpalorophis Vernslooftz. However in reverse this reads sihporoapril ztfoolsnrev, I hope. Congrats to the following; 1. muff528 x 2 2. harmless 3. gravity surfer 4.
