Ketia0 0 #1 April 1, 2010 Ok, so im looking at this truck tuner on Ebay.... But I dont know what a tuner is, except that it "maximizes fuel economy"... Is it really worth it? Here is a link to it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2008-08-CHEVY-SILVERADO-1500-Evolution-Tuner-Programmer_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem29fff18902QQitemZ180387678466QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Im not really vehicle savy, so any help would be apperciated.. Is this just wasting money? Thanks"In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. "-JohnMitchell
PhreeZone 20 #2 April 1, 2010 If you need to adjust the engine on the fly to get better torque or more HP or better mileage then its a good option but unless you know enough about the truck to know how to do these things to start with its a waste of money.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Ketia0 0 #3 April 1, 2010 See, thats the thing.. I dont know much, but would like to. I plan on keeping this truck for awhile. Why would you need to adjust the engine? Shouldnt the computers on the truck do taht automatically?"In this game you can't predict the future. You just have to play the odds. LouDiamond 1 #6 April 1, 2010 Depending on the tuner, you can adjust things like shift points and speedos. This is helpful if you're towing a lot and want better performance, more low end torque and or if you put bigger tires on your truck and want the speedo to read correctly. Most people use the tuners for more HP, especially the guys with diesel engine trucks. You do have to be careful as you can over tweak your settings and actually make things worse."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
funjumper101 15 #7 April 1, 2010 Is the tuner for a diesel or gas truck? The cheap tuners for diesel trucks work, but will smoke your particulate filter, which costs over 1000.00 to replace. Go with a Banks tuner that costs $$, but does the job right. The cheap tuners for gas engines screw around with the signals from the MAF and the O2 sensors to enrich the mixture and give more power. Some work better than others. Burned valves and other issues may occur. Unless you are quite knowlegeable on these matters, don't screw around on your own or you may cause big dollar repair bills. Pay a pro to install and fine tune the install, if you want it to work right and not break stuff. Better intake and exhaust will be part of the upgrades needed for best results. Powerblock TV shows and their web site can help you a bit.

Harmless 0 #15 April 1, 2010 Tire blowout in Wyoming just hours after I left Utah for Alabama... Traded a bottle of scotch to a body shop for some help and the headlight, put some new tires on, and finished the trip (in 2 days). Unloaded everything into my new apartment and left for the Memorial Day Beach Boogie at Emerald Coast Skydiving Center. The bungee and safety wire that the body shop provided had broke about a thousand miles into the trip soI replaced with a cargo strap and have been going strong for 2 years. (I recently zip tied a left front turn signal on to satisfy the military police ) "Damn you Gravity, you win again"

Harmless 0 #19 April 2, 2010 About 6 months ago I broke down and decided that since it has lasted this long it deserved an oil change... so that makes 1 oil change for 2 years I love Hondas, it didn't even shut off after hitting a guard rail at 70mph.
