lost_n_confuzd 0 #26 March 31, 2010 You have a better chance of winning if you switch. Check out the illustration about a quarter of the way down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problem
blkhwk91b 0 #27 March 31, 2010 HAAAA !!! I'm not crazy. The OP never stated in his riddle as to wether or not he knew which rigs were bad, only that you had a choice of 3. "This is different from a scenario where Monty is choosing his door at random and there is a possibility he will reveal the car. In this instance the revelation of a goat would mean that the chance of the contestant's original choice being the car would go up to 1 in 2. This difference can be demonstrated by contrasting the original problem with a variation that appeared in vos Savant's column in November 2006. In this version, Monty Hall forgets which door hides the car. He opens one of the doors at random and is relieved when a goat is revealed. Asked whether the contestant should switch, vos Savant correctly replied, "If the host is clueless, it makes no difference whether you stay or switch. If he knows, switch" (vos Savant, 2006)." Forget Einstein, I'm punching Monty Hall in the baby-maker."Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing, than a long life spent in a miserable way." - Alan Watts
