Nataly 38 #1 March 19, 2010 Is it just me, or do men have a real aversion to being called "cute"?? I don't get it - it's an endearing term.. Isn't it?? Ladies?? Calling a guy cute is most certainly not an insult when I say it.. What about everyone else? I don't think a lot of teenaged heart throbs would mind being called cute and my guess is that even George Clooney isn't going to mind, but if a guy surrounds himself with a macho persona, he might be embarrassed by the term. The other thing is the word carries a pretty heavy condescending tone which also is going to set some guys off.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Because when I say "cute" it's in NO WAY pejorative, condescending, or an assault on a guy's "macho-ness".."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

rehmwa 2 #6 March 19, 2010 whenever a woman (this was a long time ago) would say - 'you're cute' - that was a clear 'go' signal from her. never had a condescending or negative connotation of that ever (So I think it's great - it's always had a hugely positive connotation. In essence, she'd concluded she's really into me and let me know it) ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Shotgun 1 #8 March 19, 2010 I think I mostly referred to guys as "cute" when I was really young (school-aged). And I don't think guys at that age minded. At my age now, if I say a guy is "cute," it's probably someone way younger than I am. There just aren't any middle-aged men who seem "cute" to me. Not even George Clooney. (But I can think of a few other adjectives to describe him.)

It's just not a word that I would use to compliment a grown man.

TrophyHusband 0 #14 March 19, 2010 nothing wrong with it. i would be very flattered if a woman thought i was cute. if its meant as a compliment and a guy takes offense to it, he probably has self esteem issues. piisfish 140 #15 March 19, 2010 depends on how you say it. if you say : "your'e cuuuuuuuuuute" in a girly voice, like you were looking at a teddy bear or the latest Hello Kitty it's not good whereas if you say : "YOU are Cute" looking him straight in the eyes and scratching his torso with your nails, then it's OK scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

StangMan90 0 #20 March 20, 2010 If a woman says to me: "You're really cute!" I'll say: "Thanks!" If she says: "Your car is really cute!" And I say: "Damn! Now I have to sell it. Interested?" She'll probably think: "Oh, great, now he's trying to get cute with me." Guys, there's no winning this one. Joesimplify

happythoughts 0 #22 March 20, 2010 Puppies and the Boy-bands are "cute". They are pleasant, attractive, cuddly, but undemanding and non-aggressive. They give you love without expectation. In other words, either neutered or somehow "friends". Only non-adults are happy with "cute".
