skittles_of_SDC 0 #1 March 21, 2010 I'm driving down to school with all my stuff on Thursday. The plan is to drive 12 then stop in Atlanta to get a few hours of sleep then proceed onward to Orlando. I need a recommendation on a good area to grab a hotel where I don't have to worry about my car getting broken into and all my stuff jacked. If there is a decent area in Atlanta where I don't have to worry about it that would be great but I'd even be willing to drive out into the burbs a little bit so I don't have to worry. I'll be coming down via 75.
Andy0689 0 #2 March 21, 2010 If all you are looking to do is find a place to get some sleep before moving on, I'd recommend staying further down 75 past the airport. It'll put Atlanta behind you so you won't have to worry about it in the morning. Stockbridge, McDonough or south of those would be best. Morrow, which is further north, is OK but it's on the edge. What time are you getting into the area on Monday? Beware the afternoon traffic on I-75 south. It can be hell from about 4 to 7 pm on bad days starting at the 75/285 junction. Monday's usually don't suck as bad unless it's raining.Andy I'll believe it when I see it on YouTube!
skittles_of_SDC 0 #3 March 21, 2010 My plan is to leave home around 7am and get there around 7pm. Obviously that will very much depend on the traffic I encounter in Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville and Nashville.
captain1976 0 #4 March 21, 2010 Just take the exits within the larger populated areas. The motels just off the expressway are the safest and you don't want to travel more than a mile in each direction from I75. When traveling on that corridor, try to avoid what I call "false exits". These are in the more rural areas and even though the signs state food and accommodation on those exits, once you do you find they are several miles away. If you exit on one of these, just keep going until you are at a larger populated area. matthewcline 0 #6 March 21, 2010 Nashville shouldn't be bad traffic wise since you should be hitting it right after the "lunch rush". just keep an eye on the exits, I-24 and I-40 combine and separate at different points you would hate to head to Memphis or Knoxville by accident. I would stay south of Atlanta at night to avoid the morning commute as stated earlier, but I have not lived in the area for a few years. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. Matt I just drove I-75 this morning from near Fitzgerald to Atlanta and there are a few spots worthy of staying overnight in. micduran 0 #10 March 22, 2010 I-285 is the perimeter freeway that makes a loop around Atlanta. If you exit on 285 at the top (north) end there a lot of hotels right near the exit. There are several restaurants and bars, too. I live right in that area and can tell you that it is safe. Let me know if you want/need specific hotel details. Or Thanatos can step up and plan a Pink Pony outing. Then you won't care where you stay. Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours. I've got a schedule to keep but I could totally dedicate a few of the sleeping hours to boobs. Just looking at the names I can tell a lot of the girls are pornstars. And I have heard ATL is famous for it's strip clubs. (o)(o)

sickandtwisted 0 #16 March 22, 2010 If you want to avoid trafic, then I would strongly suggest staying on the South side of Atlanta. Unless you want to sit in traffic most of the a.m. For security reasons I would suggest staying OTP (outside the perimeter) or I-285 for the non-Georgia peeps. But do not go so far south of Atlanta that you hear banjo music! Skymama stalker #69!!!!
thrillstalker 0 #17 March 22, 2010 for real, get to the south side of atl or you fucked in the morning esp with time constraints. the south side of atl is not the "good side of town." somebody mentioned mcdonough, thats where i would stay. no banjo music, but no rap either."Never grow a wishbone, where your backbone ought to be." skittles_of_SDC 0 #19 March 22, 2010 So basically the south side of ATL is equivalent to the south side of Chi-Town. Good to know.
