It's one of a series of watch towers built in AD975 to guard against the reinvasion
of the moorish and berber armies,


L’edificació de la torre d’Ardèvol durant el segle X,
és motivada per la necessitat d’assegurar la frontera comtal vers la plana lleidatana dominada pels musulmans.
L’any 975 apareix esmentada la serra d’Ardèvol, que devia ser l’extrem sud del comtat d’Urgell,
zona límit amb l’anomenada marca de Berga. El 986, un document situa el castell de Figuerola dins el terme d’Ardèvol,
el qual gairebé segur que ja devia tenir fortalesa.
Tanmateix, fins l’any 1027 no tenim notícies de l’església de Sant Just, situada dins el terme del castell d’Ardèvol,
i el primer document que cita un senyor del lloc,
Guerau d’Ardèvol, és del 1222. Almenys des del 1314 pertanyia al vescomtat de Cardona, i des del 1375, al comtat cardoní.
