When I was younger I had a chance to try ski jumping since I was a very good XC skier. Not off the big hill mind you. Rather a smaller one......much much much smaller!
And even though I only flew 40ft (10m) I was impressed at how the air "felt"

If I were a different body type I really would have like to have continued but just having strong legs wasn't enough.

I've often wondered why they don't install small cameras on the helmets of the ski jumpers. The view coming down the chute is amazing!

But never the less, Americans seem to have a hard on for Polka On Ice.....I have no clue why!
And why do all these "dancers" cry at the end of their little dance? Do you see Speed Skaters cry? NO!
STOP CRYING! You'll cause your guyliner to run!

I have said several times that Go Pro lost their opportunity. If they gave the athletes each a camera then they could have increased their marketshare significantly. Maybe there is some type of Olympic rule that prohibits such things. I would love to see the view from the Olympians point.

All the board/ski cross athletes had cameras on their helmets. They showed quite a few segments from them. I think they also had them on the arial ski athletes too.

And the requirements are much different than gopro units: no need for storage, but need for real time over-the-air transmission.

Jimmy Kimmel: Any activity that can safely be competed-in at the Olympic level by a 5-month pregnant woman is not a sport.

like shooting and archery

Actually, I originally typed "(non-shooting) activity", but I changed it because sometimes I get too anal about details. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

Curling was more fun to watch 20+ years ago when they were still using the old style "witch" brooms.

Hurry ... Hurry ... Hurry Hard ... whack whack whack whack

I've watched Curling on the Olympics and find it interesting. I don't know much about the sport but do enjoy watching it. I need to read-up on it to learn more. I don't think it will ever catch-on here in West Texas, though!:D

As long as we're in a strong medal contention, no, we're not sick of curling!

The US women sucked and finally lost! The US men are probably going down the same road too[:/]

Who said anything about the US, eh? ;)

And yes, your Men's team didnt do too good... Surprisingly bad actually...

Not to mention the physics of why it curls the way it does, thew stones turn in the opposite direction that you would expect them to curl. Curling is an interesting sport that I always watch during the Olympics. I've looked at the local curling club but until jump season is over I don't have time for it. Not to mention who can't help but laugh at the Norwegian Olympic curling team's pants this year :D

Yesterday is history
And tomorrow is a mystery

as for the sweeping??/. pure science... the friction melts the ice, makes the stone slide further than it would,,otherwise....

I thought it was the opposite. The sweeping was to rough up the ice and slow down, or control the speed of, and in a way, alter the path the stone is taking, a.k.a. "curling".

Am I wrong? I am just basing this observation from watching the tactics the sweepers use during a run.

Shuffleboard. Now there's a game that takes grit.

Make it a little more interesting, in lieu of brooms, use leaf blowers to control the puck's path down the board. I dunno... :D

yes, you're wrong :P

Sweeping hard heats up the ice: this makes the stone go further, and straighter.

well NOT 'sick of it"
But... a bit confused about it..:|
seems to me to be "shuffleboard on ice",, and i guess there is some sort of strategy to it...[:/]
But WHY don't the announcers EXPLAIN... the finer points?? TELL the viewer EXACTLY how the scoring is figured....... point out what constitutes a good shot, versus a bad shot...:STHEY do... over and over... but people need to listen;)

as for the sport itself????
any athlete who handles a 42 pound Stone,, with grace and finesse' is Ok in my book...;)B|

as for the sweeping??/. pure science... the friction melts the ice, makes the stone slide further than it would,,otherwise....
the only things that Does make me Laugh!!??? is the way the slider "holds that position".. so long after the stone is released... hahah posers!!!! Actually they are still sighting down the path of the stone.... to tell the sweepers what to do...

Like many of the Olympic sports,, some degree of explantion could go a LONG way towards making them more interesting...to the viewers
jmy

There ... thought that might help:)

Am I the only one that thinks it the one olympic sport where it's appropriate to drink while playing? That's the only thing they're missing.
Requirements for curling:
Ice
Stones
Sticks
Pub Table
Bar stools
Beer
The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...

;):)B|

it could be that i don't stick WITH the broadcast long, enough to learn things.......I still don't know if there are different point values, for the different rings....:o:S:)

Re: "Actually,,, they are sighting down the path of the stone,, to tell the sweepers what to do "....
Ahhhhh,!!! well THAT makes sense!!! thanks... i retract my comment about posin'....!!!
i wonder if i can adapt That technique... to my next game of Bocce'....;)

I for one am not sick of it. In fact, we watch it all day in our office. Curling is a very beer-centric sport at all levels.

I think I heard last Olympics, that the ettiqute demands that Winners buy Losers beer.

As far as atheletes go, it is called the Olympic Games and curling is a game.

Flame Away.
It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude.

Maybe they never mention the point differences in between the different rings because, well, there is no difference! ;-)

Closets to the center scores a point, and all the teams stones that are in between the center and the next closest opponent's stones score a point too.

>>dorks sliding over the ice with some stone thing
Just wait a few years. There will be a new form of the sport called "Free Curling!"

Spiked, tattooed, young punks in baggy clothes, will be trash talking each other while hurling rocks that are on fire. They will also wear a "special" patch to distinguish themselves from "old fashioned" curlers."

HEY! How'd you find out I was into curling :P
