nitro98 0 #1 May 23, 2005 Hi, I have a question about nitro or nitron in the USA. Before I bought a nitro one German guy told me bad things about the lines of nitro, however I really like the canopy and I got one used one with a new line set. After only 30 plus jumps there was problem with the break lines, it was damaged. my questions, the lines of nitro is not good? I had a lines twist but not a bad one can it be because of that. Is it safe to jump this canopy ( I love the way it flies) My rigger chanced the breaks with a micro lines but I did not try it yet is it ok? If you can help me It would be great. nicknitro71 0 #2 May 23, 2005 They use HMA (technora) lines like all Precision's canopies. I don't know what kind of lower break lines they use. Precision now uses 400 LBS dacron lowers. IMO Precision's set up is the most elegant.Memento Audere Semper
nitro98 0 #3 May 23, 2005 Thank you for your answer but what do you think about the HMA lines also?
nicknitro71 0 #4 May 23, 2005 As stated I like HMA continous lines. As for the lower break lines I like 400 LBS dacron due to its good abrasion properties.Memento Audere Semper

Micro line (I assume you mean spectra) is very strong and durable, but it is not a good choice for lower control lines for two reasons. First, there is significant shrinkage of control lines made of spectra. I have seen as much as an inch per hundred jumps on some canopies. Secondly, spectra has no elasticity (stretch), so a hard opening can result in a broken control line made of spectra. The NITRO currently uses dacron for the lower control lines, but we use a 750 lb. line instead of the 400 lb. that has been mentioned earlier in this thread. As far as the suspension lines themselves, the Technora (HMA) is a wonderful line and I have seen many canopies with well over 1000 jumps on the original lineset. nitro98 0 #6 May 24, 2005 But you think it is ok to jump with that until I get the orginal linesn and why do you think it happened , line twist maybe? THANK YOU
beezyshaw 0 #7 May 24, 2005 Yes, it will be OK to jump it that way. As for why it happened that your control lines were damaged in only a few jumps, I wouldn't have a clue unless I could see the lines and then maybe I could make a guess about what happened. I am personaly not a fan of Break lines....I am a fan of dacron brake lines though...good idea. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....

And I have over 1400 jumps on my HMA lines now. Never have broken any, but it is do for a reline soon just in case. Be safe. beezyshaw 0 #11 May 25, 2005 Hey Shimmel, fyi, I know first hand of several canopies with our lines that have made it to 2000 jumps. And still in perfect trim. So it is very likely that Ed's lines could still go a few hundred more jumps.
bodypilot1 0 #12 June 1, 2005 Quote SOON??? Ya think????? Ok. I was correct in assuming canopy needed a reline. I had a soft opening, though 2 lines broke on the 10 jump of the AZ Callenge, and it landed just fine. Be safe.
