Brian425 0 #1 May 24, 2005 The left end cell on my canopy (Safire 189) has been a little slow to open the last 2 jumps. Any ideas as to what the cause could be? The canopy has about 15 jumps since being re-lined at Icarus. I only have 45 jumps so packing could be an issue. I think my body position has been pretty good on opening. It always opens right up when I tug on the rear riser or pump the brakes a little. It flies fine, flares, and turns normally. And yes I will bring it to my rigger when I get to the DZ. Just curious if it was something that I was doing wrong. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
riggerrob 643 #2 May 24, 2005 Hee! Hee! Hee! You young kids are spoiled rotten by cross ports. Back in my day, closed end cells had to be pumped open after every normal opening and usually after the last turn onto final approach. And if we encountered turbulence half-way down, we had to re-inflate end cells. Stall practice often resulted in a closed end cell or two. What I am trying to say is:"your left end cell is normal, but your right end cell is acting weird by opening every time you toss a pilot chute." Hee! Hee! FrogNog 1 #3 May 24, 2005 My short answer is if it isn't doing anything dangerous, jump it more and see if it keeps it up. At .95 lbs / sq ft this may just be how it wants to open. After a hundred jumps it may change its mind. And if you're rolling the nose, you could try rolling the nose less, stop rolling the nose and just push it in, or neither roll the nose nor push it in. -=-=-=-=- Pull. Brian425 0 #4 May 24, 2005 Spoiled rotten??? I'm an Otter baby. I thought every DZ had 3 super Otters and a Caravan until a few months ago. And aren't all canopies supposed to open softly and on heading and nice and square?? Actually, thaanks for the advice. The old timers looked at my canopy and said there was no obvious damage. I'll try to be more consistent with my packing for now. Thanks for teh advice guys. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand. skytash 0 #5 May 24, 2005 I would say 2 jumps in a row isn't that much. If it continues and is always on the left, consider how balanced you are in your harness when you put it on. Me legstraps feel uneven when they are, which is how I wear my harness with my Sabre 2. With my Spectre, it opens consistently with a right turn if I have my harness on that way and I make sure the leg straps feel even, although they aren't when jumping the Spectre (in the same container by the way). I only started playing with this when I had around 10 openings in a row with a turn/closed end cell in the same direction/side. tashDon't ever save anything for a special occasion.
